  1. Where to begin? I had a nice christmas, got a nice new DVD player (JVC-XV-S500BK). I got it so I could play SVCDs on CD-Rs.

It all went downhill from there.

Whenever I burn a SVCD it comes out not being the full length. Here are some specific details to help you understand.

-Originally had a 700MB DivX movie (DivX 4 I do believe).

-I stripped out the audio stream with VirtualDub and made a standard WAV stream.

-Then I used TMPGEnc (v. 2.59.47.155) to converte it too 2 different MPEG-2 files. (First is 50 Mins, second is 40 mins). with Video in as the DivX and the audio in as the WAV. I used the NTSC Film template, used CBR and made the settings so each file section would fit 99% to 80 Min/700MB CDs.

-The two output files came out fine, I can watch them in all my viewers, and they are the correct length. 8)

-I burnt the 1st CD (with a nifty menu using Nero 5.5.7.2)

-I put it into my DVD player, and it read the CD as being only 38:50 mins long! Arg! The picture/sound is great, no jitter, no pixalation. its perfect, except that it stops playing at 38:50....which is NOT the end of the CD.

-I tried again, same result. So I read some stuff on this site and decided to try VCDEasy with the existing MPEG-2 CD1 I had made with TMPGEnc. (Because I can view those files fine on my PC, I assume they are fine and not hte source of hte problem). Same result with VCDEasy as Nero...38:50.

-I got WinDVD to try the CD's and when I play them on my PC as SVCD's, guess what...see the trend? 38:50....sigh....

So, in short (hehehe, sorry!), I have concluded that the problem does NOT live in the conversion from DivX to MPEG-2 because I can view the local files on my PC fine. And I have also concluded that it is not my DVD player, because the same symptoms exist when viewing the CD's on my PC aswell.

Anyone ever seen this before? I have the same problem with other movies, originally being ~55:00 mins and ending up being 35-40 mins. NEver had a successful SVCD burn yet. (VCD are all fine).

So what can anyone recommend? All i want to do is take a 774MB file (Nero accepts it as a 48:00 min SVCD) and burn it....Any help, please?!?! I'll pay you with "Thanks mate!" (all i can afford...)

Have you tried turning off SVCD compliance checks in VCDEasy and/or Nero? If not, I would try that before going any further.

  4. I answered my own question, for future knowledge:

When the CD's were being ocnverted to SVCD, the time stamp was being misrepresented. i.e. 1 minute was being recored as 52 seconds. This caused the time to look like it was only 38:50, but the SVCD played for teh full 48 mins.

Food for thought. Still curiouse why that happend? Old SVCD plugin?

    Who knows, enjoy.

  5. Dude, I have a JVC XV-S62, and I am getting the same situation sometimes, but not all the time.

The DVD player displays the wrong length. But the PC displays the correct length when playing the encoded mpg.

How did you figure out that the problem was that just the time stamp was wong?
