I have an MPEG2 file to which I have applied the headerfix trick so that I can play the resulting VCD at SVCD resolutions even though my standalone DVD player wont play SVCD's. This works great, I burn my VCD's using VCDEASY and I end up with SVCD quality VCDs which I can play in my DVD player. So far , so good ..
The problem comes when I try to use VCDEASY to add chapters.
I load the header-fixed MPEG2 as a VCD2.0, then I go to chapters and try to preview the movie .. but I get no image in the preview! I get sound but no video.
If instead I load the original MPEG2 (i.e. the one prior to the header fix) this previews perfectly ok. And it doesn't matter if I tell VCDEASY that the file is for VCD or SVCD it still previews perfectly.
The problem appears to be due to the fact that I have changed the header to identify the MPEG2 as a MPEG1 file.
Does any one know of a workaround for this in VCDEASY?
the only idea I had was to load the normal MPEG2 into VCDEASY and do the chaptering and save the file in some format that I can read into TMPGenc, then do the header fix and load the result back into VCDEASY and burn the disk. I don't know if it is possible to switch between the two tools in this way,
I am using VCDEASY 1.1.5.2
thanks,
Kevin

I do know that header-tricked files sometimes won't display the video when played back on a PC. I know it doesn't help solve your problem, but it might explain why it's happening.

ZippyP,
you are correct, the MPG file with the header fix plays in Mediaplayer BUT I only get audio. The original MPG (prior to header fix) plays perfectly (audio and video) in Mediaplayer.
So I guess there isn't a problem with VCDEASY as such, but I still need to find a workaround. I have to do the header fix to fool my standalone DVD player into playing what is effectively a SVCD disk, but I also want to be able to add chapters,

I think you're stuck having to load the original mpeg2 copy the chapter points, and paste em in when you run the one w/ the header trick done to it.
If you right click in the chapter list, it give various copy/paste options.Ejoc's CVD Page:
DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy
DVD:
DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX
Capture:
VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author -
As above.
Do your chaptering with the original file. Save the XML file. Then simply do the header trick thing with your source MPEG and save it in the same name/location as the original MPEG file (you might want to move that file somewhere else first so it doesn't get overwritten).
Then build your image.

Hi all,
In the end I used copy/paste, this was pretty straightforward and worked well for me. I also plan to have a look using the xml approach, as I have not looked at using xml before,
thanks all for your help!
