I have a Nero 7 and every time I make a dvd it shuts down my computer. I use Visat (UGGGGGH) and have all of the requirements. I like the way I am able to add custom chapters with Nero that I cant seem to do with flick. Has anyone had a problem or have a better tool that can be recommended? The other issue is that Nero takes forever to make a dvd.

I think you'll find Nero is doing exactly what you've told it to do!
Most of the Nero Tools have an option to "Automatically Shut Down PC" when complete - certainly ROM Burning and Vision do! If the option is checked then upon completion the PC will be shut down via an API call to ExitWindowsEx.
Nero also remembers the setting from one run to the next so if you set it once it will remain set until you clear it - so all you need to do is find it and clear it -
I am not sure if you are talking about burning or authoring.
For burning you can get ImgBurn, and for authoring there is lots of software which will do better job.

By the way. Do you have Nero7 update for Vista? -
I do not have Vista, but use Nero for burning and cannot say I experience any problem burning DVD5. In any case lots of people complain about this software as far as DVD goes.
Try to compile to HD and use ImgBurn to burn disk, see if that helps.
If you intend to do more of DVD authoring look at other software, see the web site I gave you. Lots of them have trial period. -

What is your source material? Maybe a format Nero has to reencode to make DVD compliant? Then the shutdown may be caused by your CPU running hot. Not unheard of. But to summarize what others have said: Don't use Nero. If your source material has to be reencoded to be DVD compliant - do so with a dedicated application (like HCEnc). Then author with a dedicated app (like TMPGEnc DVD Author). Lastly, burn to disk with a dedicated app (ImgBurn, being best & free, is the only sensible alternative here).
