Is there a preference here or any factual evidence that points to Athlon or Pentium being better for the video editing world? All things being equal, which do you choose and why? I'm thinking of upgrading my system, and would like some input. Thanks. Have a nice day.

Most people say that intel pentiums and xeons are better for encoding, but, on the other hand, amd athlons aren't that much worse, perform about the same in other applications, and are a lot cheaper. That's about all you'll hear in the intel vs. amd debate threads.

  3. It really depends on how much money you have to spend. In the lower half sector(<2400), Amd would provide a better value of your money. If you have a lot to spend, get an Intel processor. You should list the specifications of your current machine and your budget.

    I currently have
    ATI AIW 8500 128MB
    Ulead Video Studio 7.0

Just wondering if I should go with a Pentium running at 2.53 or an Athlon 2800+.
I don't do any gaming at all. Just the capture and rendering are my main concerns.

As someone who owns both an AMD XP2400+ rig and a P4 2.4C rig, I'd have to say the P4 2.4C with Hyperthreading is much faster at compiling and encoding vs my AMD.

If you can afford it, I'd say go with the P4. If you're on a budget, get the AMD.

    Just my opinion!
