  1. I burned an mpeg2 to SVCD then deleted the mpeg2 from my HD. Now I need to get the mpeg back on my HD. Is there a way to extract it from the SVCD?

    Thanks

Also, if you have an mpeg2 you downloaded how can you check the bitrate it was encoded to?

  2. Just copy the mpeg back to your hard drive. it's in one of the folders on the disk.

It seems that some systems can copy the MPEG directly off, but others can't even though the disc is just fine. Even if you can copy it some programs won't open it because it'll have extra headers, and you'll have to use cdxa2mpeg to convert it back to a normal MPEG.

In any case, if you're on Windows you can use vcdxrip to try to disassemble the SVCD. VCDEasy provides a friendly front-end to vcdxrip, I think it's under the Tools tab.

You can also try ISOBuster. I've only used to it pull the mpg off VCDs, but I think it would work with SVCD too.

anywayz, for some reason, once SVCD headers are added to the SVCD MPEG-2 file (i.e. after burning to SVCD disc), media player can no longer play them....

you need to use vcdgear or ISOBuster to remove those SVCD headers, so that media player can play those files...

so, if you're just gonna burn the MPEG-2 into another SVCD...then you can go ahead and directly copy the aveseq01.mpg file directly from the SVCD to your hdd.

  9. I was googling around right after I posted and found ISOBuster. I didn't know which switch to use but after a couple of attempts I got it right. (Extract but Filter only m2f2 frames).

Now check this out. After I extracted the mpeg, I loaded it into TMPGEnc so I could cut out a scene. I cut out the scene marking the exact spot where I wanted the scene to begin (the 6:21 mark). I also marked the exact location I wanted the scene to end. When I played the cut out scene it started 20 seconds before where I had cut it from (the 6:01 mark), and it froze up half way through. I also noticed that in WMP 6.4 the horizontal scroll bar or whatever you call it was gone. I ended up opening up TMPGEnc again and doing a simple-demultiplex, then a fresh multiplex. Once I did that the horizontal slider was there and the video ran all the way through without freezing up like before. It was weird.

  10. TMPGEnc isn't very good at cutting mpegs and you could have audio/video sync problems and as you have found it is not very precise. for really precise cuts use Womble mpeg2vcr. it's not free, but does an excellent job.
