  1. I would like to take some short (15-20sec) video clips from our Sony Digital 8 and compress them down to the smallest size possible in order to e-mail them to family and friends.

I have tried quite a few codecs and the best results (size wise) was DivX (ver 4 something). I was able to get a 15 sec clip down to 4.1 MB from the 50MB captured size.

I am using Virtualdub to save the avi.

Are there any suggestions as to a better compression technique or other settings in Virtualdub I could be using?

    Thanks for any replies.

For 15 second clips, try wmv format.Windows Movie maker can do it, and it is free.

  4. I didn't mention that I'm running Windows 98SE. Is there a version of movie maker for 98?

  5. You were right on, thanks.

I found Windows Media Encoder 7 and that worked perfectly for me.
