  1. I was using TMPGenc to get my files ready to make a dvd when i came accros this error.

I went in to File, MPEG Tools, Merge and cut. I then added the files clicked edit and the error ''Illegal MPEG Video Stream''. I have no ideas what this means.

I converted dat files into mpeg so i cant see what the peoblem is.

    thanks

  5. Load your mpg file into avicodec (available in the tools section) and see what information you get about the file. Let us know.

  6. @ LaddyDaddy

I have just put the file throughAVICodec and it says the following,

    V. Codec Name = MPEG 1 (VCD)
    A.! Codec Name = MPeg - 1 audio layer

Does this mean it only has an audio layer?! If so how come it works on my vcd?
    Thanks

  11. Are you trying to merge two video files?

  12. Yes,

basically i have 3 dat files, the first is an intro, then the main cartoon, and 3rd end credits.

I can acccess the 1st and 3rd in TMPGEnc after converting to mpeg so i can edit them i.e. cut a little but i cant access the 2nd stream - this is the main one as someone as put on a massive ad and i want to get rid of it.

  13. If you are loading the three files into the merge/cut tool function and you are getting an illegal stream message, it may be because the three files are not exactly alike. For example, the bitrate of file two may be different from the first, or the resolution may be different. Load your files 1 at a time into AVIcodec. Position the cursor over the file name and click once. At the bottom of the screen information will appear telling you the framerate, resolution, and kbps of the film. The audio window will tell you the kbps, the sampling rate, etc. Repeat this for each file. See if there is any difference between file 2 (the problem file) and the other two files. Let us know what you find out.

  14. Just met same problem yesterday. I was trying to burn some MPEG clips, VCDEasy refused to load it, declaring it illegal and not multiplexed program stream. Nero took it, but there was no info, like duration about it. It seemed that the original encoder encoded video and audio simultaneously, the usual practice of newbies. So I decided to demux and remux it myself with TMPG's MPEG tools. One of the two demuxer ( I forgot which one, Simple Demuxer or Demuxer) also refused to take it. Fortunately, the other one did. After demuxing and remuxing, everything was legit

So for all guys out there: Always encode elementary streams and use a muxer!

  16. @Laddydaddy

I have put the files in and the only difference is the fps, 1 file is 25.00 and the other 29.970. I think this means NTSC and PAL. How would i go about changing one to the other i.e. 25.0 to 29.970.

    thanks
