I've encoded an XSVCD using a bitrate worked out by this site's BitrateCalc applet to fit nicely onto 2 x 80min CDs. That all went ahead just fine and then I cut the one MPG file it made using TMPGEnc into halves to burn to CD-RW.
Now I have two MPGs. One at 743.8MB and the other at 728.9MB (I used VBR obviously). When I go to burn them to disc using Nero 6, I get the "there is too much data to fit on this disc" warning message. "Do you wanna try overburning?".
What's wrong here? According to this page: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/135642.php I should be able to fit at least 797MB on the disc without a drama.
Why does Nero report an 850MB compilation equating to a play time of 84:43 (or something like that) while it's burning?
Is it something to do with the resolution of the video? I made it XSVCD so I could get 720x576 resolution - but that shouldn't matter to the size of the file should it?
Cheers,
DRP

I have had this problem before and I found that when I cut the file using tmpegenc, I forgot to select "Mpeg-1 Video CD (Non-Standard)", this is the key as the size depends on what you select here and it will be bigger if you select standard video cd.
I have been converting and burning XVcd's successfully and have not had any problems, only thing is I have to stick to 352*240 resolution as MY Toshiba SD 2800 does not support other higher resolutions for Xvcd's. -
Spot on!! Thanks very much. Yes I had forgotten to specify that the file being cut was in fact an MPEG2 (SVCD) instead of the MPEG1 (VCD) that was being selected by default so Nero was burning it as plain data because the header didn't match the content.Originally Posted by Cataphract
