  1. Hi all, i bought my first dvd-burner a few days ago and now i wanted to put my svcd movies to dvd-r. I never had any problem making any (s)vcd from DVD or Avi files play on my standalone or pc dvd-player but this thing is giving me headache's

I have used the "svcd to dvd" guide where you'd have to use "Ulead movie factory" in combination with "DVDpatcher" and "Nero".

First i rip the svcd's, then demux the sound, do the frequency conversion (44 khz to 48 khz), then patch the mpeg-headers and build + burn the stuff with Movie factory.....

Now the dvd-file plays fine on itself, no problem there but all the mpegs get out of sync around each half of each movie

I've been on this for days now and did a few tests along the way, like :

1 : re-muxing the mv2 with the converted soundfiles (mpeg2 now plays OK).
2 : tried the "Ifoedit" mini-guide with wich, surprisingly, the svcd-dvd plays fine in both standalone and pc (but no menu or chapters )

The out-of-sync troubles seem to start as soon as "Moviefactory" starts to multiplex the svcd-mpegs

Does anyone know a workaround for this problem, perhaps another dvd-authoring program or some ?

I can hear ya think now...."yeayea, just go with that ifoedit way and done" but the annoyance with it is that the dvd-search options dont work good with that method and that there is no menu to choose any movie from.

    Greetings,

    Saber

  2. i use dvdlab or svcd2dvdmpg+ to put svcd on dvd and haven't had a problem yet. If you use dvdlab remember to set the dvd to the right settings don't use full DVD but 480x480 for NTSC and 480x576 for PAL

And this guide might help to: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=161658

  4. are you converting your SVCD MPEG-2 to DVD compliant MPEG-2??

    i believe you're not....so, you're just making a SVCD-DVD...

keep in mind SVCD specs are NOT part of standard DVD specs...

    -------

SVCD-DVDs are non-standard, compliant xDVDs......not all players can handle non-compliant stuff...

this is similar to xVCD...where it has lower dvd player compatibility than VCD because it's NOT standard, compliant

  5. Thats what i said yes, svcd-dvd, so multiple svcd's burned on one dvd-r.

If what you say is true and the dvd-r which i burned cant be played correctly in my dvd standalone or pc-dvd-player (due to compliancy matters) then why does the dvd-r (containing 3svcd's) which i've put together with 'Ifoedit' does play correctly (i.e. no sync trouble at all) in both the standalone and in the pc-dvd player

Personally i dont think it has anything to do with having the 'wrong' dvd players but all the more with Moviefactory's multiplexing capabilities
I could be wrong but i'll try some other programs or methods first to be sure, the ifoedit dvd-files where just fine so its gotta be possible i guess.

well, it could be that your standalone is more picky and requires you to author your SVCDs to DVDs in a certain way.

Thats what i thought at first as well but its not about a picky standalone as i checked and played the vob-files, after authoring, with PowerDVD and then they are allready out of sync, so apparently it hasn't got anything to do with any of the dvd players over here. This is really about some obscure authoring error or something

  8. Got it going

DVDlab was a bumpy ride Tmpgenc even bumpier (read : both programs authored fine but left me with shaking/bumpy video screens with DVDlab providing the worst

The program that did the job was "Ulead Moviefactory" after all !
The trick was to not add assembled mpeg-2 streams but to feed the program the de-muxed files

I made a test-dvd+rw containing 3 svcd's done that way (fed the prog the m2v and mpa files) and it played fine on both dvd-players and there wasnt a 10th of a second during those 3 movies where the video got out of sync :P

    Thanks for the reply's both
