Video is out of sync (audio is fine)

Hi, newbie here. First, I apologise if this isn't the right place to ask but I found no solution searching other topics.

The video in one of my files is out of sync with the audio. The video is running at a slow 15 FPS in the original file, so the audio finishes a long time before the actual video. I changed the FPS to around 24 FPS which syncs the video and audio but only in the beginning of the video, when a lot further into the video it goes out of sync again...

I think the problem is that the video is slowed down, but not equally slow over the entire video. I can either sync the beginning of the video, which causes the later part to go out of sync (video too slow) or I can sync the later part, which causes the beginning to go out of sync (video too fast).

Also the original file is a DivX file, I already converted some copies to AVI, MPEG,... but they all have the same problem.

Is there any way I can fix this?

Not likely if the source is out of sync. There are ways to get the audio length to match the video length but the sound won't be in sync(ie lip sync).

I thought so already, I'll see if I can salvage some parts by messing around with the FPS.

My DV caps are also always slowly going out of sync
This is what I use for DV captures (I only have experience on DV AVI captures)

Method 1 (after DV AVI capture)
- Open AVI in VirtualDUB
- Go to video - Framerate and then select adjust audio/video to framerate (in my case always 25.002)
- Save AVI (video: direct stream copy and audio: direct stream copy)


Maybe if you try the same method above with the 24fps video, change to 24.002 play around maybe it gets in sync.

Try 23.976 or 25 fps. If those don't work calculate how far off the audio and video are near the end of the video and adjust the frame rate accordingly.

For example, assume the video is 1 hour, 37 minutes, and 5 seconds long -- 5825 seconds. And suppose audio ends 7 seconds before the video when the frame rate is set to 24 fps. You need to increase the frame rate make it end 7 seconds faster. Ie, you need to make the video 5818 seconds long:

24 * 5825 / 5818 ~= 24.0288759

So you would set the video fps to 24.0288759.
