i really hope someone can help here, ive been at this for 5 hours with no success.
I previously had a 104 installed working perfectly, and today i tried to install my new 106. Windows sees the drive as a 106, but none of my burning software (NERO, CDRWIN, Clone, Record Now Max) will recognise its burning capabilities, they all say something along the lines of "a writable device cannot be fount on the SCSI or IDE bus" .
I have tried the latest ASPI drivers from NERO, and i have replaced the ATAPI.SYS in the windows with one from a machine that is running a 106 100% fine. I have de-installed and re-installed all my burning software, and tried all combinations of IDE positions, all to no avail...
when i install both my 104 and 106 it recognises the 104 straight away, and allows me to read from the 106, but none of my burning software will allow me to choose the 106 as a recorder.
current setup:
PRIMARY IDE MASTER : HDD
PRIMARY IDE SLAVE : 106
SECONDARY IDE MASTER : 104
seeing all the drives ok, and still burning ok from the 104?
would i possibly have a faulty 106?
or some sort of compatability issue?
my system is a year old Philips Athlon XP 1700+ with a Giga-Byte GA-7ZMMH motherboard running XP Pro.
and one more thing, i'm not as knowedgeable about this sort of stuff as it may sound, i have tried all these other options as a result of info from others, so any help in laymans terms would be greatly appreciated!
many thanks in advance....

Have you tried re-installing the software after installing the 106? Or installing the latest versions of the software, to be sure that you have the proper support for the drive?
-
for record now max you will need to download the latest px engine from the stomp site dunno about the rest tho ....... try reinstalling them after you have fitted the 106

pxengine yes, has to be there also the bios has to see it & most bioses have a memory of what you have in the machine & you have to clear that when you change stuff.

thanks a lot guys, now sorted...
my problem was a dodgy copy of NERO that needed to be re-installed and replaced. Also changed the IDE cable and everything is sweet!
