  1. I have heard rumors about 8x DVD writers coming out in the next 6 months. Any word on this? perhaps some articles? I was going to purchase a 4x writer, but perhaps I should hold off a while longer.

  2. with a 4X you burn a DVD in 15 mintues, do you really need to be able
    to do it in 8minutes?

I would say, get a 4x burner now and dont look back.

Plus the 8x media will cost more, and you would end up using the 4x
media anyway becuase those disk are on sale at bestbuy etc.

  3. if you dont have a 4x already, I would wait to buy one when 8x comes out and 4x drive prices go even lower, not that they arent cheap as hell already.

  4. 8x (and maybe even faster) will come out 'some day' but who knows when. With Blu-Ray already out in Japan it's really a waiting game. No matter when you buy there will always be something better in the pipes. The question you should ask is what do I want to do today, and how much am I willing to spend, today.

I bought a Pioneer DVR-A05 (OEM Cendyne) for $170 (after rebates). For me that's an excellent deal (spend $300+ on 2x SCSI CDR back in the day). It's like buying a new PC/CPU, the longer you wait the cheaper the prices get, but the more worthless the older stuff becomes. I just bought an AMD 2600 (266FSB) for $100, in another 6mo these chips (which AMD no longer makes btw, 333FSB ver only) will cost next to nothing. But I wanted/needed a faster machine today!

When dealing with comptuer technology just accept that you're going to get screwed in the long run Pick a price and get what you want while the getting is good I say...

Is there some technology reason the plextor can burn +R at 8x but -R at only 4x?

  7. The only technologiccal reason that I can think of is that the driver makers just haven't come up with one yet.

    We have 8x DVD+R burner(s) but no 8x media.
The DVD+R 8x media has just been written on paper by Philips, but no production yet.

We have 8x DVD-R media, but no 8x burner(s) yet.
Ritek has had 8x certified DVD-R media for a few months now, but nothing to burn it with.

  9. Disturbed1, where have you seen this 8X Ritek DVD-R media?
I never saw anyone claim to have 8X Riteks.
Meritline claims they have 4X media that can burn up to 4.3X (But where can you get a 4.3X burner anyways? and why such a odd number speed, I still think 2.4x is a retarded number for the + format)

Ok Ok Ok, I know I'm not as smart as all of you. But look how much smarter I make you look!

  10. My Pioneer 106 burns disks between 4.1-4-3x according to DVD Decryptor (writing an ISO to a disk)...and that's for any disk I have tried, so 4.3 doesn't sound unreasonable...I haven't seen that Ritek 8x either and if it does exsist, how much does it cost???
