  2. More than likely your source is not avi, but either DivX or xvid. These are MPEG4 compressed files, often with either mp3 or ac3 audio. TMPGenc can not read these types of audio files. You'll need to extract a wav file from the DivX/xvid first, then use that as the audio source in TMPGenc.

Download VirtualDub, then take a look to the left under convert. There are guides for converting DivX that tell you how to extract the audio. (VDub can be d/loaded from the Tools section or at http://www.doom9.org)

However, all is not lost (time wise). You can encode just the audio (no video) then combine it with your previously encoded video.

    1) Run TMPGenc
    2) Choose File | MPEG tools
    3) Choose simple demux
    4) Load you MPG file, demux it (to seperate video and audio files)
    5) Encode just the audio to mp2 w/ TMPGenc
    6) Choose File | MPEG tools
    7) Choose simple multiplex, select your encoded video and newly encoded audio streams

Encoding audio only is MUCH faster than re-encoding the whole thing. Good luck...

Stay with a single avi file and use the extracted uncompressed wav as audio source. Then use Tmpgenc source range feature to encode the two halves.

    Hope this helps
