I want to try to crop my video so that it will be anamorphic. Can anyone offer some tips for the best quality retention? This will be for NTSC, capturing from a Sony D8...but the original film is analog. I will be using TMPGenc for the encoding and cropping. What kind of output can I expect? I'll be viewing on a 47 inch widescreen tv.
I've captured all of my new stuff in widescreen on the sony, so i've already mastered the steps to get the video to dvd. Now i'm ready to go back and start the long process of capturing all that analog stuff...

OK, I've had a little time to mess with it. I captured about 3 minutes of old analog footage from about 7 years ago. I did a quick edit in Pinnacle Studio and exported the .avi file. I then ran it through TMPGenc cropping off the top and bottom. I did a test burn on a dvdrw and it was surprisingly quite good resolution. The only issue I had was that there was an ever so slight flicker to the video. Can anyone tell me what the settings should be in TMPGenc that might correct this?
