  1. i am trying to extract "AC3 Audio" from an "XVID Movie" using Virtual Dub. I can watch the movie on my computer and hear the sound too. I have the necessary codecs (XVID Codec, AC3 Filter). The problem is that whenever I try to extract it with Virtual Dub, an error pops up that says---> "ACM failed to suggest audio decompression format", AVIOutputWAV: The handle is invalid." Some assistance to this problem would be helpful, thank you.

  3. XviD with ac3 audio is a pain in tha butt...

    What I do in this situation is to export the audio from Vdub (save as wav) using Direct Stream Copy. This saves a file with a .wav extension, but it's actually ac3 audio. Change the extension to .ac3 and then use BeSweet or HeadAC3he to convert it to wav format.

    I find that after that I almost always need to resample the audio from 48000 Hz to 44100 Hz using GoldWeave or SoundForge also.

    Then you can use this as your wav audio track in TMPGEnc.

    If you then get errors trying to convert to MPG, check out the many other posts here about changing TMPGEnc's environment variable settings in order to compress XviD video.

    @Zap

    Why don't you use Goldwave to extract the wav file as well? Less steps, less programs. Here's a guide.
