Hi,
I've been reading the site and forums for a couple of weeks trying to compile answers to the various issues I have as I am very new to this. I'm trying, as many seem to be, to transfer old VHS (PAL) tapes to DVD. I'm using WinDVD Recorder to cap in mpeg2 at a decent rate, as I don't have the HDD space free to do much straight to .avi.
It's working ok and the files are coming out ok, but I was wondering about cleaning up the audio on some of the files as there is a lot of hiss on some tapes. Can you recommend the best way to remove, clean & replace the audio from an mpeg2? I've looked at tmpegenc but I was a bit confused as to which options I should use, and also when I de-multiplex the files I don't know what software I can use to clean the files produced so I can put better audio back.
Also the files have played ok thru my TV speakers, but when I put them thru my home theatre sound system I get no sound, should I be using the "ac3" setting in WinDVD?
Finally, what is the best software to use to edit or crop these files, without reducing quality - or is this not possible with mpeg2?
I'd appreciate any advice on software, or point me in the direction of a good tutorial for these...
cheers

You should do it in AVI but, if you can't... you can'tOriginally Posted by surreal
You might need to up the bit rate for the audio in DVD recorder. 224 is what you want... and yes use the AC3.Originally Posted by surreal
Tmpgenc will cut and paste files together, woun't loose quality. Not sure about the cropping... I think so.Originally Posted by surrealDon't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.
