  2. I wonder how it is going to get around macrovision when copying DVD's? That is what Apex got in trouble with when they brought out there first DVD players.

  3. Depending on if it has a video AGC circuit on the input, it will eighter work like a VCR or ignore the Macrovision signal. If it has video AGC on the input, you would need to put a macrovision stripper on the composite video line input. I have not seen a stripper for the S-video line, but I assume you can get one.

  4. It is easy with VCR's but the macrovision is in the hardware for DVD's. They have to do this or face retaliation.

  6. The VCR and the DVD player works the same regarding Macrovision. When playing a VHS video tape with a movie on it, or when playing a DVD movie, Macrovision makes it "impossible" to record the signal on another VCR (or video capture device). It's the playback device that is liable and responsible for the Macrovision, not the record device. Still, as with DAT's, they made in impossible to record using digital inputs on the record device. I'm not sure if an analog video capture device that is immune to the Macrovision signal will be targeted or not. But since ATI and other capture devices responds to the Macrovision signal, it's a way to stay clear of any lawsuits. However, during capture, the lines that have the Macrovision sinals are not even captured!

  8. This device seems to be claiming alot. I hope it delivers what it says. Except the following:

"Record in MPEG1 format to produce VCD or SVCD disks"

    Let's hope it's just a typo.

I've always said that before too long everything will be real time and geared towards the mass market. This may be a sign of things to come.

  9. Eliminating Macrovision is quite easy, if you're willing to spend about $40:

I have this unit and it does what it advertises. It has inputs and outputs for composite and S-video. Plug in the power, plug in the appropriate cables to and from your video devices, turn the Copymaster on, and press play on your player. That's it!

  12. Macrovision is not a concern for me since I have a
    region free & macrovision-free DVD player (china's).
However, the major issue (for me) here is lip-synch problem,
I mean Why shell out hundred of dollors to buy a expensive
capture card or device (like Dazzle DVCII) when U have to
spend hours to re-mul the audio for lip-synch after all.
Yeah right, few hours less than a cheap capture card (convert video to SVCD or Mpeg4 format). What's the big deal?
My point is (for me) the only worthwhile capture device is
something requires no afterwork (capture & go type) after
    capturing!

  13. Hi,

Can someone confirm if the USB Instant DVD also has this lip-synch problem, or not ? Is anyone using this device already ?

    Thx,
    Paul

  14. I called ADS and they told me that they spent a lot of time perfecting the audio sync, and it's not supposed to be a problem. Should be shipping in a couple of weeks. We'll see...
