  1. I have a 640x360 DivX that I would like to convert to SVCD, 480x480. I would like to keep the proper aspect ratio in the final mpeg, and not have to crop the sides. I'm guessing my mpeg should look stretched on the PC, and then get faltened out on the TV. Do I have to encode the SVCD with a special flag to tell the DVD player how to properly display the picture? Also, can I use TMPGenc to do the resize, or is there a good VirtualDub filter, such as Smart Resize?

You can resize in Tmpg as well. Play around a bit with the video arrange methods.
Probably the way to go is:
    center(costom size) 640 (or 480?)x360
Video tab: res 480x480, 4:3 (NTSC)
    TMPG adds the borders automaticly.

640x360 is 16:9 without any borders? Then try source aspect ratio 16:9 full screen (keep aspect ratio)
Video tab: res 480x480, 4:3 (NTSC)

  3. Thanks for your reply. Both of these methods crop the sides of the video. Just a bit, but it's noticable. I think you are on the right track thought. I'm going to mess with the settings for a bit.
