First, if you're using WIN98SE it uses the FAT32 File System, which has a MAX filesize of 4GB, hence 4GB limit. If you're using WIN2K or WINXP, you can use the NTFS File System which has UNLIMITED filesizes. That could be your primary problem.

About the audio problem in VirtualDub. Go to your Volume Control and make sure the correct Output for "Recording Device" not "Playback Device" is selected. Then try again in VirtualDub. Also, VirtualDub can change volumes too under the Audio Menu.

  7. not that it really matters, but in an NTFS system, there is a limit: 4TB.

instead of converting your FAT32 file system to NTFS, what you can do is use a capture prog. like avi_io and enable it's spillover option so that your entire capture will still be there, but split into smaller files. also, this way if you ever decide (who knows why) to go back/dual boot with win98, then you don't have to format. you can convert to ntfs but not from ntfs to fat32 (well, unless you want to loose all your data on the ntfs partition).

if you really want to convert to ntfs, you can go here:

umm, i haven't seen a hard drive that is over 100 gigabytes.

i don't think we have to worry about reaching ntfs's limit.
