  1. I was encoding an anime clip using flask with the following settings:

DivX Pro 5.02, 1 pass, 450 kbps, bidirectional encoding
    MPEG-Layer 3, 112 kbps

and got a decent file size (within projected br calc range). When I tried 2 pass encoding i was suprised to get a larger file size than with single pass encoding!

    DivX Pro 5.02, 2 pass (pass 1 & pass 2 = 450 kbps), bidirectional encoding
    MPEG-Layer 3 112 kbps

Any advice anyone? Just that I was always under the impression that 2 pass vbr got you same quality at smaller file sizes (+ more accurate file size prediction)!
