  1. Hi board,

I have a Pinnacle PCTV RAVE with S VHS, Composite and RF in, and audio out. If I want composite picture quality (I believe its better), how can I capture with sound? As I have a SCART to yellow red and white lead (which i dont even know will give true component quality from my VCR??) but seemingly nowhere to put the sound to the TV card...

    please help me out here!

If it's anything like my ATI card then you direct your (phono?) sound lead to your 'line-in' of your sound card, and set your capture device/card to record audio from 'line-in'.
    Hope that helps,

You're right, you don't get me
If you want to record from VHS, and again I'm working from experience of my system, you need to plug your audio lead from yoru VHS to your line-in of your sound card.
You have a yellow phono from the VCR to the capture card, right?
Then you need the red and white phono's from the VCR to the single phono to your 'line-in' sound card.
Your setup might be totally different my Southern friend

i think i see what you mean now, although I have red and white phone output from my scart lead, so i presume i need a converter for one 3.5mm stereo jack to go into my line in right?

Also - is it worth it?

Depends what you mean by that.
If you mean 'is it worth the hassle' then that depends on how bad you want the VHS on CDR/DVD.
If you mean 'will I get 5.1 surround sound' then no, you won't
I ain't even sure what the hell happen's to the audio, all I do know is I now have a couple of VHS films not released on official dvd which I have on dvd, and a whole host of anologue camcorder footage on dvd at superb quality.
If I could figure out where the hell my digital camera is right now I'd take a snap of the end of the lead I mean.

If you have a shed load of money spare, which you must have wasting it on Stoke each week ....
.... consider a second hard drive, just for capture.
I did, I format it before each capture and it's improved my frame loss/capture size/quality considerably.

My point is it doesn't matter how great your HDD is, it's not ideal to capture to the same drive as your OpSys.
Hopefully you've have no problems capturing, once you sort out your sound settings

I thought I'd replied to that, but I think if you sort out your audio issues you'll solve your Vdub issues.
Shout if you need anything, or post your message then PM me if you don't get it solved and I'll take a look
No problem for a fellow footie fan, despite the team!
