Well recently I just ran out of my Princo DVD-R so until I get more in I went out to Best Buy and bought a 5 pack of Memorex to tide me over, for a few days, but when I burnt a DVD. I went to play it back in my Standalone Sony player and it played fine up till near the end of the movie. All of a sudden the pictures goes blocky, locks up and the Disc stops and gives me a Disc Error, check disc screen. Is there something wrong with memorex DVD-R's? I burnt them using my Pioneer A04 with firmware upgrade. theses Memorex were version 2.0 2x write. But I never had trouble burning anything on the Princo. Any ideas? This has happened with 2 discs in a row using Memorex. Never before.

I know exactly what the problem is. If you will look at the discs very close at the outer edge you will see bubbles and voids in the dye. This is just plain bad media and I should know since I bought 15 of them myself. I elected to just use them for burns under 3.9GB which seems to work out so far.

Well it seems Bad Media could be wrong. Now I just went out and bought Verbatim DVD-R, and burned them at 2x, but it does the same thing. I'm thinking my Pioneer A04 with firmware upgrade just cant burn it that fast. Or the drive is bad, somehow.....all I did lately was change it out of a computer into another one and didnt drop it or anything. Ugh.....

Oh I meant to say, up till now I've been burning on 1x media only......with no problems on them. Now burning at 2x, I get problems..

It doesn't matter if you burn at 4x, 1x, or 0.5x if the media has voids in the dye it ain't going to work. In my case the media was poor quality but I managed to use them all by just keeping the burn under 3.9GB.

Its probably memorex. There are two types of memorex discs, ones made in japan by Taiyo Yuden and another made in taiwan by CMC. Most of the kind in the market are made by CMC. Those are crap, the ones made by taiyo are great.

I had the same problem with memorex dvd's. But only on one of my dvd players. At the end of the movie it would freeze and pixielate. I would do it on my toshibia but not on my sony. So I think it's a combination of the two. I use ritek g3 and it plays fine on both players. I do use memorex as a demo disk when I buy a dvd player. (figure if I find a player that will play it fine then it will play any dvd)

Well I just put back the burn rate to 1x and have burned 3 discs now with no problems, i also switched it back to 2x again, and once again made another coaster.......oh well, dont know whats up with my writer, it must be picky.
-
It may be picky but I think it's the media. I do know that Memorex is the one media that is not recommended by Sony for use on thier burners.

no, I got a Pioneer A04 Burner on my computer, and a Sony Standalone player. I was using Memorex, but now i just bought some Verbatim DVD-R's and they had the same problems burning at 2x. But at 1x its fine.
