I just bought a 50 pack spindle of Ritek G03 having read in many posts that they burn nicely at 2x. But now I read that such is not possible with the Pioneer A05, which is the burner I am using. Is this true or is there any way of burning these riteks at 2x in the pioneer A05? Much appreciation to anyone who can help me on this matter.

I think this takes new firmware, either the hacked or latest Pioneer release. YMMV!

On his Pioneer, it work only a at 1X.. you need Firmware 1.21 or less or an hacked firmware ex 2X4all.
Same thing for Princo Disk. His pioneer burn them only at 1X (no mater which firware exept 2X4All) and my lg drive burn them at 2X no problem..
It's sad to see how bad the pioneer firmware is that crap for cheap media.
I'm happy I payd 150$ less for my LG burner -
where do I get the hacked firmware. I heard that hacked firmware could damage the drive?

I have put the hacked firmware which allows 2X burning for Ritek disks. I think it is 1.30. You can probably find it in linked posts from this forum or if you have trouble just go to doom9.org and scoll to near bottow of news section as there is a link to where you can get stuff like that.

Try this link for the 1.30 firmware:

The above link is the official release and will not allow 2X media which is not approved like Ritek.

You can downgrade the Firmware here :

1.30 2X4all can be found there :

There all kinds of firmware upgrades being developed by Gradius for the a04 and a05. I have used them and they work great! This guy is a genius indeed. With his upgrades or downgrades you will be able to burn ritek G03s at 2x and still be able to keep the 4x capability with your pioneer a05.
