AVI TO MPEG PROBLEM

DOWNLOADED 50 or 60 file movie in avi xvid format dvd screener. converted to mpeg with TMPCE it took 12hrs played fine on media player. when i tried burning it with nero as svcd error messages came up pixel was 580x 276 intead of 480x480 invalid audio streams 48000 hz 2channels. then nero asked if i want to reincode, that took 12 hrs just to get halfway done. so i aborted it wasnt worth my time. is there any way to get this to burn can someone give me step by step on how to get this right if it can be done?

Here is what I would do:
Convert the Avi file to the right size (480 x 480) before compressing it using virtual dub for example.
When compressing to MPG2 with TMPEG, use the SVCD template (settings for the audion stream is 224 kb and 44000 Hz ) and Nero won't re-encode it & won't refuse to burn it.
