Most likely, you are missing some codecs on your Win2K system.
Download GSpot and see what codecs you need for the file.

This seem s to only happen in 2k
cause I'm having similar problems in Win2k..

When you put the disc in the drive does it say
    "INCORRECT FUNCTION" ?
or are you saying it recognizes the disc as a video cd but won't play it?

I have a FILE TYPES REGISTRY PROBLEM related to my UNCHECKING of formats in Windows Media Player TOOLS>OPTIONS tab...
After this necessary action (unchecking these file tYPES),
The OS would return the "incorect function" when an AUDIO CD was inserted...and I could sorta say that the system would not recognize
AUDIO CDs..tho I found a few programs could get beyond the OS's inability to even see files on the DISC in My Computer or Explorer windows!

I still haven't figured out how to avoid the MEDIA PLAYER coming up when I insert a audio disc, while still being able to recognize all kinds of burns!

    btw,
What codec do you need to play VCD?
    I thought MPEG-1 decoding (COmpress-DECompress)
was native to all Windows OSes including Windows95a..
and if you have a PROGRAM capble of playing VCD's thats all you need , not a CO-DEC
