  1. I have finally got it all down to make a DVD. I encoded using TMPGEnce and author with DVDit PE 2.1 (2.5 repeatedly crashed). When i click output DVD volume, it says "build failed: each GOP in xxxx.m2v must be preceded by a sequence header" or something of that nature. How do i get these headers in my m2v's? I am desparate to complete this DVD as it is my first and am anxious now that i am this close to the end.

Sorry, each GOP must have a sequence header for the DVD spec. They are added during the encode process. Did you check any "DVD Complient" box in TMPG?

  3. where is this dvd compliant box? i can reencode if i need to somebody just needs to tell me what option to fix the problem. What i did was select the NTSC DVD (16:9) template.

  4. Nope I do not see a dvd compliant box anywhere. When i load the same template it says sequence header = 1 GOP and it is greyed out where i cannot change it.

The options related to this are in the "GOP Structure" tab in settings. There are a couple of things you need to ensure.

For DVD specs, the video stream must have frames in GOPs, and each GOP must have a header. To ensure a header insertion, set in "MAX number of frames in GOP" to something less than 30, because this is the max in DVD.

Additionally, the first three options (for I, P and B frames) must produce a video stream of the form IBBPBBPBBPBBPBB or something like that. You may wish to have alternative formats, like IBBBPBBBPBBBP which has more B frames and less P frames. This can give you a little bit better compression without loss of quality. The settings I use (from top to bottom) are: 1,5,2,1,15. I think ( ) that you may get these settings by pressing the "Standard" button to the right.

There is a good guide in VCDHelp.com about configuring Tmpgenc for DVD output. It is good as a starting point.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
