  1. Can anybody enlighten me as to why I can record a DVD from my Dansai 852 (macrovision off) to VCR with no problem but I cannot record VCD's. I can record VCD's with no problem from my Cyberhome 420 DVD to my VCR but DVD's go dark and lose sync every 10 seconds or so. Is this Macrovision protection. The VCR is only a cheapo £50 Grundig. Ideally I would like 1 DVD player to do all and thought the CyberHome would do it. As you can tell I'm a newbie so please be gentle with me..

  2. strange things dvd players are , have u tried recording vcd with macrovision on, i dont think there is anything wrong with ur vcr.

long time ago there were dvd players who refused to play cdr vcds, but even older (antique)vcd players play cdr-vcds with no problem.

there is something betwn vcds and dvds that dosent fit, i hav reviewed many dvd players with dvdr/cdr compatibility there was always some issue in dvd or vcd playback. EVEN MINE HAS.

Thanks for advice, I am pretty sure the CyberHome problem is macrovision. a shame because I bought it on the strength of a review on this site specifically saying the model I have could have the macrovision switched of.. As for the Dansai, I have tried Macrovision on and is makes no difference. I have just ordered a scart lead to remove macrovision so depending on quality I will keep the Cyberhome and keep the Dansai for spare. It was more a question of whether there was a technical reason why the Dansai wouldn't allow me to record VCR but played them perfectly. total loss of sync, picture would momentarily come back when pausing and playing. Thanks for your reply.
