    Heya Im new here.. ,
I always see svcd to dvd or divx to dvd guides.. but I was wondering if anyone can help me make vcd's into dvd's... I feel embarassed cause I know this is one of the most simple procedures but I am really a newbie , it would be awsome if someone can teach me to do so , so I can back up my 24 vcd set to hopefully a smaller dvd set thank you!

  2. First let me ask you one thing - WHY??? VCD quality is much lower than that of its dvd counterpart, and converting vcd to dvd will only do one thing - increase the file size - many fold. It's quality won't improve or anything. SVCD (480X480) uses mpeg-2 just like DVD, and CVD (352X480) also uses MPEG-2 and has d 1/2 resolution of dvd - a legal dvd resolution. VCD however, uses mpeg-1 and reolution of 352X240 - pathetic compared to the 720X480 of DVD. Let us not forget bitrates - DVD has a bitrate of at least 3X that of VCD. SO ask yourself first - do you really want to waste your time converting VCD to DVD? It isn't gonna change anything ... other than your budget with all those DVD-R you'll need to dish out for low quality stuff!

However, if you want to put multiple vcd movies on a single dvd-r, that's something different... I gues perhaps one would use nero and just add more mpeg-1 files to the mpegav folderand burn... Hope that answers your question!

I am new to DV and am trying to learn this stuff myself. One thing that I think I have learned on this topic is that if Ryen has kept the original source DV (AVI, I think?), before burning it to VCD, then he could use the original source DV to burn the DVD with DVD quality resolution. Is this correct?
