  1. Using either MGI VideoWave3 SE (Strip down version) or MGI VideoWave 4 (Evaluation version from MGI website) I am capturing from my Panasonic NVDA1 OK. However when I create a VCD or SVCD using either the MGI software or TMPEG the quality is very poor. I get lots of blocking on the TV. Certainly a long way of from the VHS quality I am expecting.

    1) Can anyone confirm that what I am trying to do will produce 'VHS' quality.

    2) If it will is it likely to be the fact that neither of the versions of Videowave are not the full boxed retail version and that the capture quality is lower on these two versions.

If not can anyone suggest any other reasons?

    Thanks

  2. I had the same problem, see what "bitrate" your dvd can handle... (use the dvd database on this site).
A compliant VCD is 1150kbits, which sucks.
Most of the time you can up the bitrate to 2500kbits wich makes a BIG difference!

  3. If you get a lot of blocks using Tmpeg, you're doing something wrong. The default VCD template in Tmpeg will create very nice looking VCD's. But, if you captures are noisy and of poor quality, then you will not get very good VCD's out of it.
