Hi,
I've got a amd k6-2 300mhz system and can capture with no framedrops at 352x288 25fps using a bt878 chipset capture card since i finally fixed my problem i found out i had a bottleneck on my pci bus since i had a pci 2d video card so i replace it with a 2d agp card and it solved my problem.
I am considering buying an AMD Athlon 1.4ghz
and wanting to know if an abit kg7 motherboard is a good choice for the mainboard and do i need raid support for capturing etc...
also would like to know is there a big difference in quality when capturing from vhs to uncompressed avi at 352x288 25fps pal and 704x576 25fps pal.
Any help would be apreciative
Thanks

Take a look at the ASUS A7A266 board. It has provisions for both SDR DIMM's and the newer and much faster DDR memory that runs at a blistering 266 MHz on the Front Side Bus. Plus you can fiddle with the CPU settings from the BIOS.
All the faster AMD CPU's run HOT like 120-130 degrees under load and doing long renderings of video will stress the chip so be sure to have pleny of cooling especially if you plan on overclocking. Why anyone would need to overclock a 1200-1400MHz chip beats me when they run that hot at the recommended clock speed.
You don't need raid. Invest in a large Ultra 100 IDE drive instead or a external firewire drive. Don't forget the required 80 wire cable to prevent crosstalk on the IDE drive.
