  4. Hmm??? Not sure what SHS is trying to say. They do make PCMCIA firewire cards. Firewire is way to transfer DV data to your HD with out losing any quaility (in theory). However, once you've got that data you'll still need to encode it to MPEG1/2 (eg. TMPGenc, CCE, etc).

The new computer will help thou because encoding is mostly dependant on the CPU.

  5. There a couple of software based real time DV to MPEG transcoderes that will allow you to do what you want. They are very CPU intensive min~ P3/700mhz.

    Chek out Campeg at

Vejita-sama what Greg12 was asking can I encode DV format Video directly into MPEG 1 VCD Video.
What he asking for Real-Time DV to MPEG1 Translations.
    Answer is NO.
As for CAMpeg RT it very slow and not Real-Time DV to MPEG1 Translations, Greg12 your better off getting a real-time PC base hardware but it will be some what expensive.

so with an 800mhz processor, how long will 60 minutes take to encode under normal vcd.

do they have pcmica analog capture cards

  9. It's hard to say how long it will take. I only make MPEG2 files these days. I have a Tbird 1.2Ghz and 512MB PC133 ram. With CCE I get ~1.1x the movie run time. With TMPGenc I get ~2.5x the movie runtime. So assuming the CPU/encode time is linear (which isn't) at 800Mhz that would 3.8x for TMPGenc and 1.7x for CCE (for MPEG2).

Encoding MPEG1 is faster. (say 30~50% faster).
