  1. I made an illustrated guide for making SVCDs. Hope it helps everyone out who is still having problems. Here's the link:

  2. SCB,

Thanks for taking the time to make this. Unfortunately, this still doesn't work for really problematic DVD's, like X-Men. It has worked on others for me though.

Hopefully KaiCherry and BileStyle's new tool will help with the tough ones.

  3. I haven't tried to make an SVCD from X-Men with this method. Before the QT Decode option was available I tried converting it to VCD with ffmpegX. It stayed perfectly in sync until about 47 minutes or so into the movie - the part when Rogue is sucking the energy from Wolverine. After this point the video just froze up. I also tried converting to DivX and the video didn't freeze but it still went out of sync at the same point. Framerate change? Is this what happens when you try?

  4. Yeah, that sounds very similar to what I'm experiencing. I've honestly tried about 10 different ways of converting it to SVCD, but no luck. This is the only DVD I've run across where nothing worked, not even Bilestyle's old method of converting the vob to DV first. I also tried just ripping and converting a few chapters, but problems there too.

I noticed before 1/2 way through (probably around your 47 minute mark), no matter what method I use the video starts stuttering a bit, and eventually sync gets off and stays that way. The new ffmpegx refuses to convert the whole thing as well, it's strange. There's definitely something weird going on with this one.

What happens if you use mencoder Divx on it?

Good question, I haven't tried because I don't use Divx, but if I get a chance I'll try it tomorrow!

    Hello SCB,

I saw your guide to make proper SVCD's.
Do i still need to install the Mencoder binary from Sourceforge.net?
Or can i use ffmpegX 0.5 without it?

    Thanks

  8. There's no need to install the Mencoder binary unless you want to convert to DivX.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I only have one more question.
Is it possible to get subtitles in the SVCD movie?
If so, how can i get them into the movie?
    I can't find a checkbox to activate.

    Thanks again

  10. There are ways to get subtitles into the movie but not with this method (not that I know of). If the subtitles are hard coded into the movie (Rush Hour), then there's nothing extra you need to do to encode them. However, if they are not (Star Wars Ep. 2), then you are SOL. Bilestyle and Kaicherry are working on an easy way to include subs. I think Mpeg2DecX is supposed to work for subtitles but I've never tried it.
