  1. I just finished downloading a divx but to my shock when I opened up the file, there was no sound! I tried playing it in Windows Media Player, Divx Player 2.0, and anything else I could think of, all with the same result! There's no sound! This also happened to me the last time I opened a divx movie . I tried using TMPGEnc right away, but it only detected the video srouce in the file and no audio source. so that was a no go. I highly doubt that the person who ripped the file was careles enough not to include the audio, so there's something wrong with my computer I'm thinking. It's not my sound card; all my music and other movies play perfectly fine. I've played many divx movies on my computer previously (before I discovered SVCDs) without problem. But recently I haven't been able to hear any sound from them at all.

Is there maybe some sort of setting that anyone may know about that is stopping me from hearing the sound in my divx files? And if not, is there a program I can use to convert the files to a different format?

    -Thank You-

No..AC3 are usually the dolby stereo that comes with DVD.
Thats why you have to have the right codecs so you can encode it.
The WAV audio is what you should convert it to (uncompressed) before encoding with TMPGE.
Are you sure you have Nimo Codec Pack?
Download this to see if more audio info is available:

  11. Do you think if I just went ahead and burned the file to a Video CD-R and played it in my DVD-ROM the sound would be fine?

If you encode with TMPGE, it sometimes has a problem with AC3.
Thats why I always convert it to WAV before encoding.
If you cant play the movie from your hard drive ,then I don't think there is any point in wasting a cdr to burn it.
Maybe try this File Information checker:

  13. Use Virtual Dub and direct stream processing to separate from your avi file, then save as a wav. It will be around 80 mb. Use Headac3he (should be in the tools section) to convert to a usable mp2 you can mux with your video after you have encoded it in tmpgenc.

  14. Good suggestion weeyou....
except ,don't you think the MP2 should be used as the Audio Source during the encode?
As opposed to muxing it after the encode.?

  15. HeadAC3he says it "cannot open source file" + "could not find data chunk" ;(

  16. Try using TMPGE to convert from WAV to MP2.
Just load the WAV into the Audio Source box then in Setting adjust it to Frequency and kb/s you desire.
TMPGE is not exactly renowned for audio only conversion, but I have used it before.

  17. Even TMPGEnc won't open it

'File "D:\DVD Ripping Kit\Temp DVD Files\Spirited Away D1 Sound.wav" can not open, or unsupported.'

  18. mmmm....open it up in GSPOT again to see the audio info.

  19. In GSPOT:

    ----------Audio Format---------

    ---Codec---

Name: ac3 (0x2000) "Dolby Laboratories, Inc"
Status: Codec NOT Installed (more info...)
    Bitrate: 384kb/s
    Sample Rate: 48000Hz

    ---------Direct Show Render----------

    Source: (emtpy)
    Splitter/Other: DivXG400

    Video Media: MEDIASUBTYPE_YUY2
    Video Codec: Subtitle Mixer

    Audio Media: MEDIASUBTYPE_PCM
Audio Codec: Moonlight Odio Dekoda --> Morgan Stream Switcher

Hmmmm, I've never seen anythingl ike this prog. before. Says right away codec isn't installed That's encouraging. What's this "Moonlight Odio Dekoda --> Morgan Stream Switcher"? Is that the codec I need to download? I clicked on the "Codec NOT Installed (more info...)" button, but nothing happened. Everything else seems to be fine. File is correct length, no errors were found either.

  22. I did. And I do. "Nimo Codec Pack 5.0 Build 7". I don't know why it didn't work ;( I recently re-installed Windows too, so there aren't many other programs' settings blocking anything that might have been installed.

I downloaded the codec, but how the heck do I install it? There is ust a couple .bat files and an .exe. The readme didn't have any instructions naming any specific folders to extract the files to, and clicking on the exe only brings up an error message? "No DLL name specified" I clikced on reg.bat then on the .exe again, but the same thing happened.

  23. OK. I even just downloaded the new NCP from the link u left above, and still no sound. Could it possibly be the player I've been trying? I've been using Windows Media Player (always unsuccessfully), and Divx Alpha Player 2.0. Are these the standard players? Or is there something else out there that I haven't heard of yet?
    Quote Quote
  24. There are many, many other players (listed in the Tools section to the left)...
but , I'm beginning to think that it probably won't make any difference.

  25. Hello !

The answer is very simple, given two things : the audio really is AC3, and the sound stream is not corrupted .
    It has two parts :

1.) Play back the ac3 audio in Windows, using the right codec . You can either use the AVI AC3 codec, although I am not sure if it works in WinXP, or you can use the newly developed AC3 Filter, available at www.doom9.org or www.divx-digest.com f.e. . The AVI AC3 codec can be gained from my site , www.jazzmc.gmxhome.de/ac3codec.zip .

2.) Extract the ac3 sound and convert it to the format of your choice . Use NanDub for the extraction (not VirtualDub, it cant handle ac3 correctly), you will get a .wav file that is an ac3 file, so just rename it to .ac3 . Then convert that to whatever you want with BeSweet & GUI .
MP3 would be fine, that you can then either play as external sound file to the video with f.e. BSPlayer, or mux into the video stream with f.e. NanDub .

I don't know why this was so much trouble

    Cheers ,

    Jan .
If, in a forest with noone in it, a tree fell, and it struck a mime, would anybody care ?
