First thanks a lot to major for bringing ffmpeg to us - and everything for free.
With a little help I got everything to work on a fresh 10.2 partition.
Overall SVCD quality is excellent - I was always using the preset tab for standard SVCD - but I observed the following quality problem:
every 5 to 10 minutes the picture stands still for a fraction of a second while the sound is perfect (I never had sync problems). This is really annoying and my only real problem with ffmpegx 004d to 004g.
I cross-checked that this is not a problem of my toshiba SD220e-DVD-Player.
Does anybody has this problem and a solution?

OK, found the answer by myself. My Toshiba DVD-Player handles VBR-streams, but seems not to like it on standard SVCDs. The solution: CBR on SVCD or XSVCD as output-profile in ffmpeg. Even when I want to use 2500 kb/s as video-bitrate, I know choose XSVCD in the VCD/SVCD-options tab and everything works fine.
