  1. I've been using vcd easy for awhile with no problem, until now. I get the power calibration failed error and then check force execution which works for a minute then I get a write failed error and it says buffer underrun? At the same time it says buffer 100%. Then the drive is locked up and won't eject. It just started doing this out of the blue. I can burn other files just keep having problems with the bin/cue's. Fireburner does the same thing. I have an HP writer +8200. Help I'm about to go buy a new CDRW.

  2. I have NO IDEA WHY but on a hunch I changed the write speed from 1X to 2X and it works fine. Now why does it do this. Surely somebody knows. I'd like to burn @ 1x if I can.

  3. A power calibration error means that the drive can't find the right level to set the laser at... It can be a sign of dodgey media or a more insidious sign of impending hardware failure.

Is there any reason that you want to burn at 1x? There is generally no real benefit...

  4. Well I hear from almost everyone that 1X is best for burning video. I think the HP might be getting ready to die though it's at least two years old. Maybe thats why it's having a hard time calibrating the laser? ( Old )

  5. No, 1x is not the best for burning video.

If your DVD player wasn't designed to read CD-R/W media, it has been observed that a lower burn speed can help with the compatibility of the disc. If your DVD player was designed to read CD-R/W media, it shouldn't matter.

In any case, most newer burners are "optimised" (insofar as the least amount of C1/C2 errors after burning or jitter) usually at a burn speed somewhat higher than 1x. It may be 4x or perhaps 8x...

In any case, if you don't have a problem playing back CD-R media on your DVD player, there is no particular reason why you need to hamstring yourself by burning at the lowest speed.
