I'm using the trial edition of DVD Workshop. On the first menu I have three frames. The first two frames are supposed to play a movie clip with no chapters. The third frame leads to a second menu with a movie with 18 chapters. Each chapter has a button on the menu.
The problem is that on the first menu I can not navigate between the three frames using the arrow keys on the remote control of stand alone DVD player. Also, when playing on DVD ROM, the arrow keys do not work.
When I somehow get to the second menu (by pressing number 3 on the remote keypad) then the arrow keys work just fine to navigate between the buttons for the 18 chapters.
Any ideas why the arrow keys are not working? Thanks in advance.

If you are burning a VCD, the arrow keys do not work, you must use the number pad (I think this is part of the VCD spec); but they should work if you are burning a DVD. What kind of project did you specify when you opened DVD WS?

When you are editing the menu, select the buttons to check if they are linked or not (look at the left of the preview window, select the tab named "button"); by default new buttons are not linked (unless you use the wizard to create the menu). To link a button with one element, you have to drag&drop the element over the button.

Thanks for the inputs so far. I did specify DVD at the start. And, the buttons are definitely linked. However, something weird is happening here. Of the three mpg2 files involved, one was made by TMPGEnc. The other two were made by Studio 7. These two files I had problems with them bringing them into MovieFactory and into Spruce. DVD Workshop had no problems bringing them in. I think maybe DVD Workshop is reading these two files as mpg1 and the first one as mpg2. And, perhaps, it is getting confused between DVD and VCD. Just a thought. I would re-encode the other two files with TMPGEnc this evening and see if that fixes the problem.
But, I'm still wondering whether there were manu navigation problems with arrow keys that were fixed by a recent software patch? I can not install any of the patches while using the trial edition of DVD Workshop. -
I think you may be confusing titles with chapters. If you have 3 seperate mpeg files this will create 3 titles in DVD workshop, and chapters can be created within titles. I have noticed that some DVD players have problems navigating through titles with the next and back button. And actually if you look at the control panel in preview mode on workshop the next and back buttons are greyed out and cannot be used for navigating through titles. I have played a disc with multiple titles in 3 different DVD players and they all behaved differently.
Pioneer 636, next and back buttons work and you can navigate through titles no problem.
Alba DVD 114, next and back buttons dont work with titles, you have to go back to the menu to navigate.
Supervision 2500, next button works, back button doesn't. -
Craig,
You understand my problem very well. It's navigating between the tiltes that I have a problem with. I'm testing a brand new Pioneer DV656A with a DVD-RW burned by Pioneer A04. I don't recall any of the preview buttons being greyed out but I'll check it out this evening. I do recall that I could not navigated the tiltles with the disk in DVD ROM and using WinDVD to play it. -
Craig,
I read somewhere that the 1.3 patch is supposed to fix some title navigation problems that occurs on some DVD player. I'm wondering if you have installed that patch? -
Yes I am using the full version of DVD workshop 1.3
-
My understanding is that the 1.3 patch is not for 1.2 (the SE version) if it is installed there can be some problems
