Hey guys
I was interested in buying the Hauppauge WIN TV PCI...
I have a 533Mhz AMD with 3D Now Technology, 512MB PC100 SDRAM and a 20GB hard drive. Would this be sufficient to capture full frame mpeg 2 to put on DVD? It will be from S-VHS & LD sources. I just need some opinions bfeore I actually purchase it. I heard it's a real good card at such a low-cost!
Thanks!
Aris

Ok Maybe I should rephrase my question
Can I capture full screen video on the Hauppauge WinTV PCI
with 533mhz and 512mb is it reccommended?!?!!?!!?Thanks!

You probably could with a WIN TV PVR PCI or PVR 250 as they use hardware encoding which will put less strain on the processor and RAM. You're best bet is to look at the hauppauge website and see what their recommended minimum specs are.
Also, your hard disk is way too small to capture in anything other than MPEG2. -
Well I can capture 480 x 576 at 25fps with 44khz audio at 25fps
with Overlay turned off, using a Win TV PCI card and my 850mhz
Athlon with 384MB.
Don't know if that's any help to you....
I will say this though the Win TV PCI card does a good job i like it
a lot....

Hey thanks guys...
Actually, I think I'll have to use the Hauppauge WINTV Radio - PCI cuz that has S-Video In...Where as the others don't. It is also in my budget range too. I mean I figured 533mhz with 512mb ram and 20gb enough.
I have nothing on this computer except for AOL, IE, and Office...All my other stuff is on the other computer, so this computer only has about 3GB full. And I thought that DVD's hold 4.7GB? I thought I had plenty of space...Cuz I need to capture at the standard TV picture size from S-VHS. Thanks for the help....Thanks!

Are you planning on trying to cap directly to MPEG1/2? I don't believe the wintv card will do that. You may be able to find a software mpeg1/2 encoder (winvcr???) but I don't know if they would work as well as a dedicated hardware mpeg encoder like the canopus advc-100 card. I own a wintv card and it makes great avi caps that I convert to mpeg with tmpgec. But it would seem unless you planned on getting a bigger hard drive, you need a real time mpeg encoder. Uncompressed avi files are huge. Check out q1's post again, it looks like I repeated a lot he said....
