Updated Opencodec link to v5 and added a link to OpenJOC.

    Thanks.

  2. It seems like the latest beta can't output audio over HDMI. My TV gets essentially white noise. When I switch output to PC jack, the audio is fine.

What are these things anyway? PP didn't use to require external installers.

Did it use to? I noticed that AC3 was set to internal instead LAV at last update and dolby audio files couldn't be decoded. I usually have everything set to LAV.

  4. Those technically are external decoders generally either dlls for potplayer or directshow filters so you can use them with potplayer. Only certain directshow filters work these days with potplayer as the program can reject certain usage of them. I'd say use internal codecs for the most part if you can but potplayer has its limits too but it's one of the best players out there for your typical normal user. People like to say MPV is better and easier to use but I personally feel MPV has so much customization that you can do that I feel it's more for advanced users as it can use scripts and config files to get more out of it. OpenJOC project merged what it does into a LAV Filter for experimental decoding of dolby digital plus atmos joc sound to be heard whether in stereo or binaural or in native channel configuration of file. Most people don't know or understand that once you go to 3D spatial surround codecs/formats you get object based sound and it stops being about bed channel typical surround that we are all used to hearing such as 5.1 or 7.1 surround. Essentially the idea behind atmos is that objects are present in the air and move around actively and will adapt to whatever channel configuration you have such as stereo, 2.1, 5.1, 7.1, 7.1.4, or even 9.1.6. They can do even more channels than that but it can get pretty crazy how much there is to deal with these object based surround formats. Commercial Dolby Atmos in theaters can normally do 128 objects but that's far too much for residential systems so they will do maximum of clusters of 16 objects and TrueHD Atmos 7.1 generally sticks with 12 clusters of objects. The Default Atmos channel configuration is normally 7.1.4 for most audio systems these days. There's so much to know and learn about all of this that it can make your head spin but to be honest you may want to use some AI models from chatgpt (free/premium chatgpt account or duck.ai) or gemini pro or even claude to fill you in on some of this stuff as many people may not know how all of this even works. Chatgpt can look at github projects and understand what is going on to explain it to you. OpenCodec is good to use for potplayer to keep up on most of the typical surround formats that you'd come across for media content that you'd play. LAV Filters are good to use as well but only if you use the newest versions that come out and often its best to get the nightly versions just in case the official versions take much longer.

In the near future, I may talk more about other projects that are being done and coming out for atmos/dts/auro-3d/iamf/etc. For now, if allowed I'll just list or mention them here if you or an admin wants to look into these to put them up on VideoHelp as times are changing and best to see what is coming out. With how fast AI-assisted programming has become things will progress fast in all sorts of projects to beneft everything including video players/codecs/etc.

    https://github.com/harletty/harletty-bridge
    https://github.com/truehdd/truehdd

Those are all projects that work together technically to allow rendering and decoding of spatial surround formats. In the future it's possible that potplayer may include what is here in those projects but I think they may want to do so if FFMPEG project is interested in merging it into the codecs.

    ARM64 version of OpenCodec:

    https://t1.daumcdn.net/potplayer/PotPlayer/Codec/v5/OpenCodecSetupARM64.exe

(I don't have an ARM CPU to check this)

So if I understand correctly OpenJOC can decode Atmos correctly? Even as a binaural output? In that case any number of objects can be used, right?
So it's integrated into LAV filters? The latest stable? Or some experimental version?

So opencodec is what used to be internal filter of potplayer?

  7. By the way does anyone know how to add a clear button to the playlist search field? Is there any skin with a clear button? maybe I can find the code in such.

A hotkey would be nice for the search feature, but I can't find one.

  8. There's a new directshow video render that an admin or others may want to know about that is for Potplayer and for MPC-BE that uses libplacebo with mpc video renderer code. It has many options and is being actively developed. Seems promising for a start and can improve I believe. It has some issues here and there with certain type of display of subtitles but if you do full screen it seems fine. Libplacebo is the default go to for video rendering these days for newer and some older hardware since it can be efficient and customized by a lot. Lots of options in the Frankyrenderer but you'll need to install it somewhere in a directory with the install.cmd i think so it gets registered into the system for directshow filters.

    https://github.com/mryx007/FrankyRenderer

some extra information as you'll need nightly build of mpc-be used and potplayer beta build in order for frankyrenderer to be tested properly.

One ZIP for both players: MPC-BE and PotPlayer now use the same native FrankyRenderer package. There are no separate player packages and no MPC Video Renderer compatibility registration.

Recommended upgrade: Export your settings, close all players and uninstall the previous FrankyRenderer package using its Uninstall.cmd. Then extract the new ZIP to a permanent folder and run Install.cmd. Keep external ICC/LUT files if you use them.

PotPlayer requires the beta with native support: Use PotPlayer 261030 Beta 64-bit or a newer build with native FrankyRenderer support. Select FrankyRenderer, in the player's video renderer settings.
    https://t1.daumcdn.net/potplayer/beta/PotPlayerSetup64.exe

MPC-BE: Use a recent nightly build with native FrankyRenderer support and select FrankyRenderer.

Thanks for the info. Added FrankyRenderer to VideoHelp software page also.

    Preferences > Filter Control > Video Decoder > Built-in Video Codec/DXVA Settings > Prioritize D3D11 DXVA

Make sure it's a check mark (not -) if you want hardware acceleration with FrankyRenderer (Prefer D3D11 DXVA usage with any Video Renderer).
