  1. Is the Pioneer BDR-212DBK a very good choice for ripping UHD100 discs?

    And possibly 100GB BDXL discs?

Compared to BDR-209DBK, BDR-2209 and BDR-211UBK, and other Pioneer models?

I heard the 212DBK's can't rip UHD100 discs very well...

So just trying to figure out if this is a very good drive, or better to search for another model?

The drives I use for ripping UHD disks are all made by LG. I don't have personal experience with a Pioneer BDR-209DBK.

However, there is a post (at https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19634) on the MakeMKV forums which provides information about which drives can be used for ripping UHD disks with MakeMKV, and whether or not they need to be flashed with new firmware before ripping.

If I understood what I read there, your drive can rip 100GB UHD discs, but needs to be flashed with new firmware first. However, I recommend that you post your question on the MakeMKV forums to be certain. UHD-capable drives are not cheap, and are largely discontinued by the manufacturer.
