  1. I use FFbitrate Viewer because it displays a graphic of the frames, seconds or gops. These should match the original except where smart cuts have taken place.

SC64 always encoded the entire video when I tested.
I believe you purchased a license, so maybe this is an issue with the demo (though he claims it now allows 30 minutes of smart cutting).

I don't think my display, playback issues are likely to be resolved anytime soon, so I have totally given up on it. Maybe in six months from now he'll have something, but I'd rather keep my fingers crossed that skeskinen gets motivated again.

Yes i bought a License with the Promo so it was only AU$7 i assume for just 1 year, but it makes no difference to my Smart Rendering of AV1 to AV1 or HEVC to HEVC because of the massive slowness of the export, taking at least 10 times the export video duration to Smart Render, when it should be almost instant like in SMC.

In SC64 an export from AV1 to HEVC takes about 2x the duration of the export file to Smart Render.

I have never bothered checking recoded files, and especially not the recoded frames around my cuts, with VRD, and i would assume SC64 and even SMC would use their intelligent recode mode, so i never bothered to check.

I just messaged skeskinen to ask what is going on with SMC as i paid for my personal license (i actually bought 2) so i am hoping i might get a reply or he might return to update us.

All i want is for him to get Intelligent Rendering/Recoding done to replace the horrible way that the Full Recode works, and get a titles feature happening..

Have not had any more updates from SmartCut64 for several days, not holding my breathe on that one fixing the current issues.

  4. Just read your reply from skeskinen that he has ceased development of SMC. A shame.... I do understand though. I think it's a lot harder to market such apps today compared to 10 or more years ago.

I wonder if he will make it open source, or go fully freeware on the current version, which even in its current state has a lot to offer. Personally it does everything I need.... for me there were just some user experience interface issues that would have been nice to see improved.

Maybe next year he'll get re-motivated and this won't be the last version we see.... Good luck to him in what he decides to do in the future.

Yes SMC is very much a usable tool for those who can use it in it's current form, i mean, the Smart Cutting is perfect, it Smart Renders a file to Same As Source perfectly, and it will do Recoding from one format to another (say AV1 to HEVC) if you know how to use the export Speed and Quality settings, but for me,even setting the encoder to slow or medium, and the quality to low, my AV1 file would export to HEVC but the video Bitrate always seemed to be too high.

My AV1 @ 20.0Mbps would export to HEVC @ 32 to 35Mbps, and i have read that an HEVC file recoded from an AV1 file should be around 20% highter, how correct this might be i am not really sure, as i have only just started using 4k AV1 files that i have been getting from a Youtube channel, but i would never record videos in AV1 myself just because of the lack of support, HEVC will always be my preferred codec as of now.

If i was the Developer i would be leaving it out there and offer it Free to those who want to try it.

One consideration would be to make it available unrestricted, but as donationware.
If it built a reputation and user base, a future pro/premium upgrade might then be viable....We'll see.
