You must be on a slow internet connection with a download speed that slow.
I have a 500Mbps NBN connection, and that 245mb folder downloads in a flash for me, like 2 seconds.
I actually get almost 540Mbps from Sydney without my Proton VPN.

Using my VPN from Australia i get 490 routing thru New Zealand, and 350 thru Tokyo.

Dam well you got a great internet speed, not a speed i would bother paying for, but that aside, something is definitely going on there, my download was around 10 to 12MB/sec

I click on & the smart media cutter exe file in order to run it.
Message on screen says to drop a file or click to browse.
I click to browse & go to my Video folder & select an .mpg file. Tried a couple .mpg files.
Screen message says Opening media file - Please wait.
Then is just closes & disappears.
Any idea what's happening? -
Dam, i never had any crash like that from my files, then again the only files that i have used in SMC are my 4k/60p HEVC camera recorded files.
Might have to try and find a crash file report (if SMC has one) and send it to the Developer or post it in here for him, or others to look at. -
No problem opening MPGs here.
SMC downloaded in les than 60 seconds here. -
When I first downloaded SMC from the VideoHelp forum's link the other day it was slow. I cancelled & re-tried & it then downloaded fast.
I just now tried the VideoHelp link & it fluctuated around 800 KB/sec. -

@Mike99, yes, I can't open a VOB either, the thingee spins for a second or so and then SMC goes back to the "Drop media or project files here to start" screen.
But, if I convert a VOB to MPG with AVIDemux (Smart-Change) SMC will open it OK.Last edited by Alwyn; 9th May 2026 at 21:08. Reason: Last line added.

I tried version 2.4.4 again & it opened & played an .mp4 and .MOV video. At least I know the program can play somethings.
-
Processing VOBs is probably not a common use-case for SMC. Most VOBs would come from a DVD, which already has no ads nor needs cutting up. Recoding to MP4 would be handy but in the priority list, not at the top, IMO.
-
VOB and MPG are ancient now, and i can't believe it has already been so many years since i moved from DVD, i never worked with Bluray because i considered it totally pointless.

I said nothing about TV broadcast, i was referring to DVD and BD, and given that it now 2026 all TV broadcast should be in HD as a minimum in my opinion, and if mpeg2 is still being used in TV broadcast then we TV viewers are being ripped off by the crap quality we get.
I personally can't believe anyone still works with these formats, but i guess those recording from TV have no choice. -

The fact is that MPEG 2 is still being broadcast and therefore it is not ancient. You can opine all you like. Stop your nonsense and stick to the topic.
-
Don't you start telling me what to do or say, you have taken this thread off topic just as much as i have, just by responding like you have.
My point is, they should not be broadcasting in such an ancient format and giving us fodder quality on our TV, what is it that you don't get.
Again, it is my ownm opinion, so you back off and no need to respond if you disagree.
You stick to the Topic and so will i, Geez -
Imagine that people still use DVDs, and want to convert them to format which is easier to prepare, handle, and/or enables streaming. Except of that MPEG2 HD is a standard primarily utilized in legacy digital television systems in the US. (Of course, it is impossible to create a DVD from such a stream without conversion.)
It is you who demands SMC has option to convert to other codec and resolution. So then, remember that people have different needs but also interests. -
I do not, nor have i ever DEMANDED anything from the developer of SMC, so get your dam facts right before sprouting that rubbish.
I have asked him in here, as well as via PM, if he will ever be offering support for recoding to other Resolutions in the AV1, VP9, HEVC, and AVC codecs that he already has for his current Full Recode export option, this is the only other feature that i personally want to see in SMC, as well as maybe add a feature to add titles, BUT i already have my own custom method of creating my titles and i use VRD to add them to my export files, so if SMC does not ever have a title feature i won't be too worried, it would just bring SMC more into line with VRD as a comparable option.
As far as the Developer including export to other resolutions or Formats, i can assure you right now that i would never ever ask for him to add an option to allow conversion to older formats such as MPEG-2 because i personally would never have the need to use them, HOWEVER it is up to him to include any other format for those who still work with them.
For those who might take offense and crap me out for referring to mpeg-2, or any other older format as being ancient, then they just need to deal with it, and move on, it is just my own personal opinion, because they are very old formats from many years ago, even if they still may be used by some, including the TV broadcast industry.Last edited by Bridgy; 11th May 2026 at 02:00.

A suggestion/feature request:
A shortcut (say P [next to I O) to automatically delete a marked section.
Example scenario: I'm cutting out ads from a TV recording. When I get to the start of an ad bracket, I hit I. When I get to the end of the ad bracket, I hit O. But I then have to hit Delete to actually delete the ad bracket. It would be good to simply hit I then P and move on to the next section.
Thanks for considering!
