Authoring DVD Workflow Question

Here we go: a BD with a VIDEO_TS folder from a DVD and two ISOs (ripped DVDs). I burnt the disk with IMGBurn, which asked if I wanted to make it a "DVD", because of the VIDEO_TS folder, which I declined. I also had to change a setting to allow it to burn the large ISOs.

Both the VIDEO_TS folder and both ISOs play, with full menu operation, on my PC with VLC.

Nothing shows up on my Bluray player.

Alwyn, so you were able to play the DVD-ripped VIDEO_TS folder and the ISO file burned to a BD on your PC using VLC, correct? Are these the settings?

What a computer will not play play with VLC:
A VIDEO_TS folder written to a blu ray disc the same way as it would be written to a DVD disc.

Cholla, so the trick is not to try and burn a VIDEO_TS folder and the ISO file as a DVD on a BD. Would you tell ImgBurn not to burn it as a BD?

On a side note, I am having trouble doing multi-quotes, so I hope this makes sense.

Alwyn just did the blu ray he posted a picture of the files in. I'm sure he could tell you whether to make this setting or not.
I believe I just selected Build mode loaded the files . Then burned to a blu ray disc.
I checked this blu ray disc tonight & the .MP4s of movies will play on my settop BD player.

I use the Mode dropdown on the ImgBurn toolbar & select Build mode.
I was using ImgBurn before it had the ezpicker mode.

In the settings picture you show I checked my ImgBurn settings & I have this set to "Auto".

Here is a How To: Or the best I can do.
Open ImgBurn and select "Write files/folders to disc" (Build Mode) from the main menu.
Add your ISO files: Drag and drop your multiple ISO files directly into the Source box, or click the Browse for a file folder icon to select and add them. They will be treated as standard data files.
Insert a blank Blu-ray disc into your BD writer drive.Wait for the status at the bottom left to change to "Ready".

Check the capacity by looking at the information panel or clicking the Calculate button to make sure the combined size of your .iso files does not exceed your Blu-ray disc capacity (typically 25GB for single-layer or 50GB for dual-layer)

Configure settings (Advanced Tab / Options):Look at the Options panel on the right side.Set the file system to UDF (UDF 2.50 or UDF 2.60 is recommended for Blu-ray data compatibility).
This should let you burn large .ISOs.

Set the write speed: Under the Device tab on the right, change the Write Speed to a safe rating matching your media (e.g., 2x or 4x for BD-R) to avoid buffer errors.

Enable verification: Check the Verify box so ImgBurn checks the data integrity after writing.
(The step above is not absolutly nessary)

Set the output to your physical optical drive under the "Output" section on the right/bottom (ensure your burner is selected, not an image file destination).

Start the burn: Click the large Build/Burn folder-to-disc icon at the bottom left to begin writing the ISO files as data onto the Blu-ray.

Accept volume label prompts if ImgBurn asks to generate or modify the disc's volume label name, then click OK on the information summary window to begin writing.

I burned a BD-R 25 GB similar to the one Alwyn did.
These are my results:

Settop BD player
AUDIO_TS folder nothing in it.I should have left it out.

Enemy_Mine is the BD Rebuilder conversion from a Commercial DVD.
This DVD has a menu but the conversion does not.
You have to open the title folder.
Then the BDMV folder.
Then the Stream folder.
The play the .mts file
The movie does play.

The VIDEO_TS folder is from a movie on DVD with a menu.
It was ripped with CloneDVD.
The menu does not play as a interactive menu.
If the Menu vob (VTS 02 0.VOB) is selected it plays a non-interactive menu.
Then the movie.
Or you can just start the movie with VTS 02 1.VOB

The El Dorado is from a DVD that has a Menu.
It was ripped with MakeMkv.
The Menu does not play.
The movie does play.

The Rio_Bravo is from a DVD that has a Menu.
It was ripped with VOB2MPG v3
The Menu does not play.
The movie does play.

The RIO GRANDE.ISO does not show at all.

On my computer:

This means your movie.ISOs should play as long as played from a computer.

Guys, thank you so much for putting in the work to help me out. It seems that a settop player has a bit more complexity for straight BD-R playback.

If it had been a rip from a commercial blu ray movie that was just compressed to BD-R 25 then it would have played .
Menu & all.

The reason the BD Rebuilder required going deeper into the blu ray folders is it was created from a DVD rip.

My blu ray player is less than 2 years old.
Alwyn's is probably older. I doubt the one I had before would have read the files this newer one did.

Neither one read the DVD.ISO files burned to a BD-R 25.

Computers did. Since your goal is to archive to DVD.ISO you should have no problem retrieving them from a computer.
If for some reason you want them on a disc.
Use a DVD disc.
Mount the DVD.ISO in a virtual drive & burn to a DVD disc.
This is if they have interactive menus.

If they do not have menus then convert them to .mkv or .mpg with one of the softwares I used.
The general opinion is a DVD conversion is better to .mpg.
So give VOB2MPG v3 a try for this.

Cholla, thank you for this breakdown. I will use the advice on this thread for my project and report back when complete. Hopefully this will help others with the same questions.
