Yes, I Searched Here 1st; Compare DVD-R to DVD+R Discs

I've recently got VERY good advice from this Forum, so I'm now prone to trust it fully. I just bought some blank DVD+R discs for my project, and chose this brand because it was a name brand I recognized;

Is there really anything to be gained with +R, or not, at this point every little advantage seems like a GOOD thing. Is there a particular brand of +R you feel is superior to my choice ? Thanks !

Verbatim with AZO dye are the usual recommended DVDs. On this forum & other forums.
For DVD + or -.
DVD + has greater compatibility. That is the only advantage I know of.
If your DVD or BD player plays DVD - well then no difference.

DVD-R (dash not minus) has the greater compatibility as it's the original format. With rare exceptions, primarily drives from the early day, all DVD drives support DVD-R. https://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/media/dvd-formats.htm

A far greater issue and concern is that quality DVD-R/+R discs are limited to Verbatim AZO (look for the AZO logo)* and Taiyo-Yuden. Both are now manufactured exclusively by CMC Magnetics in Taiwan who obtained the formulas and licenses. Barring an extemely unlikely change in the market, CMC Magnetics is one of the few remaining DVD manufacturers left, with Verbatim AZO and Taiyo Yuden labeled discs their only 1st tier products available.

I don't beileve there are any DL Taiyo-Yuden discs, but I believe the Verbatim DatalifePlus discs are still AZO.

I agree being the older DVD format & the only official one DVD-R is more comparable with older players.
There is a caveat to this:
If any DVD player is one of the picky ones & insists on DVD-ROM.
This is to mimic a pressed DVD.
Then only DVD+R or DVD+R DL can be booktyped or bit set to DVD-ROM.

What has to be watched for are counterfit Verbatim discs.
That are not Verbatim but claim to have the AZO dye.

I was just answering lingyi's post.
I actually use both terms interchangeably.
I'm vintage 1953. Depending on your vintage I'm either a kid or a fossil or peer.
