MakeMKV Says "No Disc" when Blu-Ray Disc is Inserted

My MakeMKV software will no longer recognize any Blu-Ray disc, making transcoding impossible.

It will still recognize standard DVDs.

The problem has existed for at least a month.

I have uninstalled, re-installed and verified my serial number, but nothing I try fixes this issue. Very frustrating.

If someone else has had this problem, is there a fix?

Can your blu ray drive play the blu rays from a media player ?

I have now discovered that Blu-Ray discs are not recognized by my media software [Potplayer, VLC].

DVDs, however, play fine.

I haven't a clue why Blu-Ray discs have decided to stop working with any software, while DVDs are not problematic. Perhaps there is something within my WIN11 system that needs adjusting.

This is because the blu ray laser in the optical drive in no longer reading the blu ray disc.
Meaning it likely has failed.
Do you have a decrypter like XReveal installed ?
If you do you can check if it is deccrypting the disc.

I have VLC set up to play blu ray discs.
This takes some work & adding additional files.
I checked a blu ray in the latest MakeMKV & it worked for me.

If you have a software blu ray player it is easier to test with.

Per the name, Blu-Ray uses a separate blue laser versus the red laser of CDs and DVDs. So just the blue laser died. Very common issue. Also since burning discs requires more power, burning of all discs may fail, but reading may still be okay.
