USB Capture Devices (online info sparse on these models)

Hello...

Trying to create a lossless digitizing chain for VHS cassettes. The original discussion is here:

In this thread, the following devices were recommended as part of that chain:

• GV-USB2

• USB-Live2

• 710-USB

The 710-USB I could find nothing useful on at all. I can only find the GV-USB2 eBay, I think it was the USB-Live2 that I found on Amazon. I can find precious little else in terms of information or purchasing.

Can anyone point me to where I could get a little more info so I could at least compare the devices and then make a purchasing decision?

The pinnacle 710 has different versions. If you want to be sure you have the right version of that card then you have to buy it from the digitalfaq marketplace.

There are some Pinnacle 510s on Ebay, though your millage may vary.

I never could get AmerecTV to work with my 510 or my 710 which is fine because Vdub works well for me but i'm just saying your card choice will effect your software choice.

As mentioned, manufacturers often change the hardware of their devices and what was good yesterday, may not be good today. For example, lordsmurf currently has devices from Hauppague and Tevion that are actually rebadged ATI-600.

A prime example is the AVT-8710. The green version is good, the black version is not so great.

Also the late gen green AVTs don’t work well with JVCs. Then the late TBC 1000s weren’t great and some of the TBC 3000s were noisier or preset for pal even when the sticker says NTSC and vica versa. A lot regular buyers wouldn’t know when buying from eBay or a place like that.

As it turns out, I wrote this guy 6 years ago. He responded, but I never got back to him. Idiot me.

We’re communicating now, and I’ll be discussing with him some options.
