IVTC Issues

I have created a .MPG of "The Polar Express" NTSC DVD Using Movavi Video Suite 17. I would use Avidemux, but it doesn't handle DVDs with seamless branching (multiple titles/angles of the same movie) unlike Movavi Video Suite 17. I then used VirtualDub2 to IVTC it, using settings given by someone in another thread of mine. I had this issue where there would be interlacing artifacts present after the proper frame rate change, but I had changed the Decode Format to "fix" that. I have used the same settings and it seemed to work when I did it for "Cars", but in this shot, there is an interlacing artifact that SHOULD NOT be present:



Is there anything I can do with what I have to fix this?

Was the video fading in or out at that shot? Fades on DVD are often done at the interlaced field rate. The changes are small enough that the frames aren't detected as interlaced and hence not deinterlaced.

It appears to be NTSC video so it's not Hanover bars (which is limited to PAL video).

You'll need to provide a video sample. Don't re-encode it.

Here are the closing logos after the end credits of the film processed 3 different softwares. As before, I will be using the .MPG created by Movavi Video Suite 17 as the master. In the .MKV created by VirtualDub2, you will see that same interlacing artifact as before. Keep in mind, the .MPG is encoded with all progressive frames, meaning it is stored @23.976fps with 2:3 pulldown flags. I have recently found a version of HandBrake to stick with (1.7.3 GUI), so I decided to use its Detelecine filter, and everything appears as it should. I did the cutting using Avidemux for the purpose of just sampling the closing logos here.

In my opinion, I think I will stick with HandBrake for DVDs, simply because it has a better interface, especially when it comes to processing DVDs. You get to select which Titles you want, as you would with something like VLC or any DVD Player. It does a better job at IVTCing NTSC Films, so therefore I'll probably use that instead of VirtualDub2 for NTSC DVD Sources.

It looks like that's just a failure of the field matcher to recognize the frames are interlaced. Because the difference in brightness is very small and it's only a small part of the frame.

Hence why I'd rather use HandBrake now that I've played with it enough to make my determination.
