    So you connect Hi8->ES10->miniDV->PC?
    Overcomplicated (miniDV cameras tended to have TBC too), but since it works for you...

    However, colors are better improved in post-processing, especially since recorders are known (and invaluable) due to strange changes in brightness.
    And I would have paid more attention to the vertical jumps, but this problem didn't seem to occur in the Hi8 recordings.

    And I'm surprised you didn't get a luma range of 16-255 from miniDV.
    Sorry, what do you mean by “vertical jumps”? Is a common issue with these DVD Recorders?

    About the luma range, i'm using a Digital 8 DCR-TRV730E PAL camera to be exact, is this a bad thing? I never noticed issues, just thought it looked how it should look (however yes, both images show slightly clipped brights, I think you said that because of this I guess, but the integrated TBC of the Hi8 camera makes this worse actually), the integrated TBC of the Hi8 camera does change the colors for worse more muted or desaturated and makes the image a bit brighter too were surprisingly the DMR-ES10 don't do that (i'm using the SCART adapter), and also have it for other captures from other formats.

    I don’t notice any posterization either and I love the performance of the DMR-ES10 with the SCART adapter, I just don’t like the overall “brighter” look and more dull or desaturated colors using the TBC of the Hi8 camera, the DMR-ES10, at least my unit with my videos doesn’t touch the colors and brightness and the video with the brightness and colors looks exactly like a capture with the Hi8 camera connected directly to the D8 camera with the TBC/DNR turned off and EDIT on without using any TBC and without the ES10. (I tested this and came to the conclusion that my DMR-ES10 is not touching the colors and the brightness and have a good TBC performance stabilizing the analog video, but cropping a bit more the left area with a wider black bar, but is too small that I don’t mind that and again, I don’t notice any posterization issues at least noticeable to my eyes).
