Any talk of Smart Media Cutter please take it to the dedicated thread here, that is the right thread to discuss how it works, not in here.

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/415875-Smart-Media-Cutter/page4

@ Jack75 .......... If you want to try VRD i might be able to help you if you send me a PM.

If only removing adverts from TV shows or movies then SMC should be all you need, and SMC will change your .TS container files to .MP4 without recoding.

    Good Luck

Note that an internal counter in VRD has expired so in order to get the activation to work, you need to set the system clock back a year, do the activation and then reset the system clock. By system clock I mean the windows clock, not bios.
    Hi Marayong

I have it installed through winboat on linux , winboat is like a vm and I have win 10 installed
so I dont need to restart pc to go into windows now if I need to edit a video

thanks for all your help and others too

    kindest regards

@ Mike2020 ...... unfortunately since Dan Rosen passed away in late 2022, you cannot ever use your Pro License any more on a different machine or OS, which means you are now locked to the machine or OS that your current License was activated on.

Unfortunately the Pro version activation (like i have) was done using a different method to the TV Suite version, which apparently can still be reactivated on a different machine or OS, and Marayong is a bit of an expert on that one.

Back before Dan Rosen passed away the original way to move the Pro License to another machine or OS was to contact Dan and he would issue a new Code to you which would be used with your License key to reactivate it on a new machine or OS, and this is a very unfortunate thing for all Pro users.

I also have no idea if VRD ever worked on Linux, i never used it before.

If you would like to move your Pro license to another machine or OS, please send me a Private Message and i may be able to help you.

    Cheers
    Marayong

have it installed now on linux too , so happy it works on there

  4. For what it is worth, someone has posted details of a cross-platform software they have called "VRD Next". It's currently freeware & available as a python script - you need to compile it with python or run the script in python. Details here:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/videoredo/comments/1v2u95t/vrd_next_a_crossplatform_videoredo_lite_editor/

    And also here:

    https://github.com/infidelus/vrd-next

I've got health issues at the moment so not able to run it through its paces to see how well it works.

Thanks for this info, i do have a few things to say or add to the conversation in the first link you posted, but i hate Reddit so i won't be diving into any of the stuff being posted there.

I get the feeling that this new VRD is not going to be developed to a level anywhere near what the original VRD was, so for me it would be pretty much pointless to even bother with, and i now have my own version of VRD Pro completed some time ago that can be activated on a new machine and works with Windows 11.

I wish the Developer of SMC would get back to his Thread here in this forum and update us with any new developments, because i still believe that SMC will eventually be the replacement tool for VRD TvSuite and Pro versions, as soon as he gets cracking on adding the few remaining features still missing, but at the moment i believe that it is still the closest thing to VRD so far.

  7. No suggestion of intelligent recode either.

Still, it's another project in early days. It may come to something or fizzle out.

According to the reddit thread it seems DanR has abandoned his plans to develop his version of VRD.

And yeah, reddit is pretty much a cesspit at the best of times. I mostly just lurk there, following a handful of forums of relevance for me, the VRD one being one of them.

Reddit is just such a dumb format for a forum, and i still don't get why it is so popular, i just find it to be a bogwash.

  9. Further to VRD Next. I've not had a chance to look at it yet (health issues ATM mean I can't sit at the pc for long). It's a one-person project, but open source. The dev is happy to do any needed bug fixes and also willing to try to incorporate recommended features. It has frame accurate cutting and some form of intelligent coding. It also has QSF (quick stream fix). Saves files as mp4 or mkv, handles subtitles, has an automatic advert detection & removal feature, tho' I doubt that will work in Australia for the same reason the same feature in VRD does not work.

The downside is it only comes as a python script, so you need to have python installed. It does come with a windows bat file that automates the install, or manual instructions for the more daring.

ATM there're several bug fixes and.or updates a week, so it's being pretty actively maintained & developed.

The GUI is similar enough to VRD that VRD users should find it easy to use without having to read the help documentation but it's not, I hasten to add, exactly the same, so no copyright or patent infringements. The dev is (was) a long time VRD user who had videos VRD couldn’t handle, so they created a VRD inspired replacement for their own use and have decided to release it for others to use.

Oh, and whilst one can discuss it on reddit, one could also discuss it on github.
