Hi,
Hello, I'd like to download a YouTube video with a Spanish audio track.
The video has an English track, and with automatic translation, the Spanish track is available.
With this code I can view all the data streams, but only the English language is displayed:
But on YouTube, I can see the Spanish audio using the "Automatic Translation" option.Code:yt-dlp --list-formats --allow-unplayable-formats LINK
Is it possible to download the Spanish audio stream?
The last time I used this program, I downloaded the audio and video separately with this code:
Code:yt-dlp -f 140-1 --allow-unplayable-formats LINK yt-dlp -f 137 --allow-unplayable-formats LINK
Is there any way to do it? Or is it better to use another program?
Thank you

If you upload the YouTube link I can test to see what I can get.
One of these can list with the languages.
The first is what yt-dlp has stock.
yt-dlp -F LINK
You need to install the js-runtimes node to use this but many times this gets more results.
yt-dlp -F --js-runtimes node LINK
I have not tried --allow-unplayable-formats but I plan to see what it does. -
Thanks for the reply.
This might be a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHseUigNZlw
I'm still only seeing the tracks in English, not the ones in Spanish.
I used the version from the link you provided: 2026.06.09
If you could tell me the exact command, I would be very grateful.
Thanks! -

The video has at least 6 versions with Spanish language track:

Can you use just --js-runtimes in the code ?
I'm running the node version of --js-runtimes & I have to use --js-runtimes node .
Could you link me to the post ?
Before you use this code: I'm using the node version of --js-runtimes & I have to use --js-runtimes node.
The code you use may be as LZAA posted.
If you do not have any version of js-runtimes installed yt-dlp is not going to give you all the episodes in the list.
It may not be able to download some files.
You should see something like this in the command information: "[youtube] [jsc:node] Solving JS challenges using node" if js-runtimes node is installed.
The code I used:
Using LZAA type code:Code:yt-dlp -F --js-runtimes node https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHseUigNZlw
I found the exact versions OBO posted .Code:yt-dlp -F --js-runtimes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHseUigNZlw

¿How do I install JavaScript runtime?
¿Are you referring to this? https://www.java.com/es/download/Last edited by cronos111; 23rd Jun 2026 at 03:39.
-
Just install Deno like suggested in their docs; if yt-dlp can find it in the PATH it will be used automatically.
https://docs.deno.com/runtime/getting_started/installation/ -
The js-runtime also depends on the Windows OS you are using.
What OS are you using ?
I'm using windows 7 32-bit so I require the node version.
From the link Obo posted:
If your OS falls in this category then use Deno.NOTE: Deno requires Windows 10 version 1709, or Windows Server 2016 version 1709 and up
If it doesn't I will find the link for node. -
Thank you very much,
I think the problem was that I didn't have the deno.exe program in the same directory as yt-dlp.exe.
I use Win11x64 updated + CMD.exe like admin. It doesn't work with PowerShell, I don't know why.
It appears that these 3 commands do the same thing:
I just ran the command:Code:yt-dlp --list-formats --allow-unplayable-formats https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHseUigNZlw yt-dlp --js-runtimes xxx -F https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHseUigNZlw yt-dlp -F --js-runtimes node https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHseUigNZlw
Code:yt-dlp --js-runtimes xxx -F https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHseUigNZlw
And to download the video and audio, I used the command:Code:ID EXT RESOLUTION FPS CH │ FILESIZE TBR PROTO │ VCODEC VBR ACODEC ABR ASR MORE INFO 301-0 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [de-DE] 301-1 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [es-US] 301-2 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [fr-FR] 301-3 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [hi] 301-4 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [id] 301-5 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [it] 301-6 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [ja] 301-7 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [nl-NL] 301-8 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [pl] 301-9 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [pt-BR] 301-10 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.45MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [uk] 301-11 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.46MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [en] 301-12 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ ~356.46MiB 6615k m3u8 │ avc1.64002A mp4a.40.2 [en-US] (original) 299 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ 263.31MiB 4883k https │ avc1.64002a 4883k video only 1080p60, mp4_dash 303 webm 1920x1080 60 │ 159.97MiB 2966k https │ vp9 2966k video only 1080p60, webm_dash 399 mp4 1920x1080 60 │ 113.99MiB 2114k https │ av01.0.09M.08 2114k video only 1080p60, mp4_dash

To fix it, I remux with mkvtoolnix, and now it plays perfectly.
Were the yt-dlp commands I used correct?
Is it possible to download two audio tracks + subs directly and combine them with the video?
That way I can have Spanish and English in the same file with subtitles.
Thank you so much for your help!Last edited by cronos111; 24th Jun 2026 at 19:00.

You can do that using mkvtoolnix. Just download the audio tracks and add them on your mkv file.
-
Thank you so much for your reply, I'll do that.
Regarding the subtitles, I'll start a new thread to avoid mixing so many topics. -
You can do this without extra processing post-download, ask the devs on their discord sub-forum yt-dl-help
https://discord.gg/H5MNcFW63r -

Windows 7 32-bit can not use the deno version. I have the node version in my Environmental Variables/Path. That way it does not need to be in my yt-dlp folder.
I have not tested with Power Shell.
For my OS they do not.
#1 lists the formats but not all of them.
#2 gives an error & no list.
#3 gives a longer more detailed list.
I tested without the --allow-unplayable-formats & it worked fine. You can leave this out most of the time.
It looked OK as far as I could tell but I do not speak Spanish.
So far I have not been able to do this using only yt-dlp .
Downloading both the English video & Spanish video with separate subtitles. Only English subtitles were available.
Then using mkvtoolnix to join then worked.

Putting video in this post.
For some reason it wouldn't show in the previous post. -
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and for the processed video; it's perfect.
May I ask how you downloaded the English subtitles?
What program did you use? I only know JDownloader for SRT subtitles. -
I need to use the node version of js-runtimes.
The first code is the one I used:
You are able to use the deno version of js-runtimes.Code:yt-dlp -f 301-1 --js-runtimes node --write-sub --write-auto-sub --sub-lang "en.*" --skip-download https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHseUigNZlw
This code is probably the one you need to use:
There will be two files with the English subtitles. Both are .vtt format.Code:yt-dlp -f 301-1 --js-runtimes xxx --write-sub --write-auto-sub --sub-lang "en.*" --skip-download https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHseUigNZlw
I could not tell any difference so I used the "What you get for $1000 a Month in Cebu, Philippines - Our House Tour [uHseUigNZlw].en.vtt"
The .vtt subtitle format worked correctly in mkvtoolnix.
So no need to convert to a different subtitle format.
I have now tested using Power Shell. On Windows 7 32-bit.
You need to start the code with(without the quotes): ".\yt-dlp" instead of "yt-dlp" .Last edited by cholla; 27th Jun 2026 at 14:08.

Thank you so much for your help! I've spent several hours on this today.
I'm sharing some other ways I've found to do it.

I also got help in the Discord channel; I wouldn't have been able to do it alone.
Now I think I understand it, and I think I'll be able to do it on my own in the future.
Thank you so much!Last edited by cronos111; 30th Jun 2026 at 16:37.

I've been testing your codes.
I guess I tested too much because I get this :
If I wait for a while it goes away."ERROR: Unable to download video subtitles for 'es': HTTP Error 429: Too Many Requests"
This is the code that worked for me.
It had the best video, Then Spanish & English audio & subtitles.
Code:yt-dlp --js-runtimes node --extractor-args "youtube:player_client=all" --write-auto-subs --embed-metadata --embed-subs --sub-langs "en,es.*" --sleep-subtitles 20 -f bv[vcodec*=avc1]+(ba[language*=en]+ba[language*=es]/ba) --audio-multistreams --convert-subs srt https://youtu.be/uHseUigNZlw?t=10

There is no way to download both into a single file with yt-dlp.
The best files to download from the list formats or F are 301-1 & 301-12 .
The bv is listed as 299
The best audios 328 & 251-5 which do not display in the list formats but have to be available because they download.
Those are the best quality audios. The Spanish is opus & the English is eac3.
The audio tracks from 301-1 & 301-12 are AAC LC. More compatible.
What has to be done is download the 301-1 & 301-12 individually.
Remove the subs from 301-12.
Then join the 301-1 & 301-12(with the subs removed) with ffmpeg.
The much easier way is to use mkvtoolnix.Code:ffmpeg -i input1.mp4 -i input2.mp4 -map 0:v -map 0:a -map 1:a -map 0:s:1 -map 0:s:0 -c:v copy -c:a copy -c:s mov_text -metadata:s:v language= -metadata:s:a:0 title="Spanish" -metadata:s:a:1 title="English" -metadata:s:s:0 title="Spanish" -metadata:s:s:1 title="English" output.mp4
Open with 301-1 add 301-12.
Then remove any audio , video, or subtitles you do not want.

Thanks for your reply.
Sorry, I made a small mistake when copying my code; it was actually 60/70 seconds, not 20seg. I've corrected it now, and it works.
https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/13831#issuecomment-3712613129there are 2 known ways of avoiding this HTTP Error 429:
Pass fresh cookies to yt-dlp from a browser session where you've very recently loaded auto-translated subs
Wait ~60 seconds after extraction and before downloading the auto subs, e.g. --sleep-subtitles 60
(Either of these 2 methods will work individually, you do not need to combine them)
AUTO-SUBTITLES in EN+ESP in SRT format, waiting 70 seconds to avoid error 429:
AUTO-SUBTITLES. The other way to avoid error 429 is to copy the browser cookie. But first, you must watch the video and load subs (firefox):Code:yt-dlp --sleep-subtitles 70 --write-auto-subs --sub-lang "en.*,es.*" --sub-format srt --skip-download "uHseUigNZlw"
Download full video with multiple subtitles + audio, waiting 70 seconds:Code:yt-dlp --cookies-from-browser firefox --write-auto-subs --sub-lang "en.*,es.*" --sub-format srt --skip-download "uHseUigNZlw"
299+251-5+328 - [AVC-HQ][AUDIO-ESP-OPUS-2.0][AUDIO-ENG-EAC3-5.1]Code:yt-dlp -f bv[vcodec*=avc1]+ba[language*=es]+ba[language*=en] --audio-multistreams --embed-metadata --embed-subs --write-auto-subs --sub-lang "en.*,es.*" --sleep-subtitles 70 --extractor-args "youtube:player-client=web_embedded" --merge mkv "uHseUigNZlw"
Download full video with multiple subtitles + audio, copying the browser cookie:
299+140-10+140-11 - [MAX-RES][AVC-HQ][AUDIO-ESP-AAC-LC-2.0][AUDIO-ENG-AAC-LC-2.0]Code:yt-dlp -f bv[vcodec*=avc]+ba[language*=es][acodec*=mp4a]+ba[language*=en][acodec*=mp4a] --audio-multistream --embed-metadata --embed-subs --write-auto-subs --sub-lang "en.*,es.*" --cookies-from-browser firefox --merge mkv "uHseUigNZlw"
Sorry for my level of English, I use Google Translate.
I don't know if this code can be improved, but there's one more line. It runs quickly

The code for "299+251-5+328 - [AVC-HQ][AUDIO-ESP-OPUS-2.0][AUDIO-ENG-EAC3-5.1]" works except I needed to add:
--js-runtimes node & the full YouTube URL https://youtu.be/uHseUigNZlw?t=10
Neither code with "--cookies-from-browser" will work for me because I only use portable browsers.
They store the cookies differently.
BTW Your English is a lot better than my Spanish by a long way.
This is the video I came up with & I believe it is the best one:
Finished with mkvtoolnix.
