  1. Good afternoon users of VideoHelp. Hope you all are doing well.

I've been trying to work on a project to capture Betacam tapes to lossless video files in the same manner I do with VHS. Which is through amarec with Lags video and PCM audio.

I did some searching on which PCI-e capture device would work for component and I settled on the older Blackmagic Intensity Pro as from this word that it was "OK" here (https://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vid...t-capture.html)

I've just received the card and have been trying to use it on my Windows 11 desktop in the same way that I use the PVR 1290 for composite and S-Video capture. But after installing the drivers for the card from both the included DVD and from one other ISO on archive org for the device I still only get a black screen and no audio.

Nothing on Virtualdub, Amarec and even Blackmagic Media Express from the DVD it came with.

I should clarify that for audio I will probably need some more help as I have never dealt with XLR audio capture. I bought XLR to RCA cables but from what I can gather just now it seems that won't work. Any recommendations on what to do with XLR would help a ton.

That said I don't really know what is causing the lack of video from the card. I'm not sure if I need another specific yet lost driver out there or if Windows 11 is too new of a driver.

If Windows 11 is too new which capture devices would work that would also allow me to use AmarecTv and not some proprietary half functional software that doesn't cost as much as the Beta deck itself?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

  2. Hi! What Betacam deck do you use? Do you connect the intensity shuttle directly to the deck, or do you use a TBC?
The blackmagic cards require a stable and strong signal, depending on what deck you use that could be a possible issue.
You can also try to download the latest Desktop Video 16.1 directly from Blackmagic support, if you havenīt tried that, instead of Archive.org or the DVD.

Probably you need to activate component input as it seems HDMI input is active (BM in HDMI capture mode require to set particular HDMI video mode in advance then this video mode is negotiated with HDMI source).
In component mode you should have more freedom than in HDMI mode.

The Analog to SDI mini conv. worked for me too, only used the BMD 5" Video Assist monior/recorder to record to SD card,
previously a Thunderbolt 2 Intensity Shuttle worked also fine.
Don't listen to the nitpickers here in the forum that come with all kinds of details that don't matter for VHS/Analog passthrough, my ES35V did clean up/stabelize the signal to the RCA red green blue, but it does also on the other yellow RCA and s-video

btw if you have both HDMI and Component output, and you want to use Component, you have also to remove the HDMI cable to have Component output working at some devices, HDMI can be tricky with HDCP and "handshaking"
For capturing with BMD hardware, you have to use the BMD software to capture, because this software also does "set" the features for capturing in the device.

The BMD website has a compatibility list of their devices. windows should have less problems than a MAC pc/laptop.

If your card is still not detected, you might remove other cards that could have a conflict, with your BMD card, or swap the cards into different slots. you have to select the BMD device and select the input you're going to use, and the exact resolution specs.
